Most of the food that we eat stays fresh and usable for 24 hours once opened from the wrapper or container. After 24 hours the food begins to rot and its quality starts to decline. That is why we see a label on foods written " Must be consumed during 24 hours once opened". Therefore food stayed open longer than 24 hours must be discarded for safety purposes.
<span>All ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety foods must be date-marked if stored for longer than 24 hours. </span>According to food and drug administration, if the opened product will be held more than 24 hours, it has to be marked to indicate when the food must be consumed, sold, or discarded. If the manufacturer’s use-by date is based on food safety, it may not be offered in a retail establishment beyond that date.
