-1/2y=1/2x+5 and y=2x+2

Mathematics

I assume this is the intersection of two lines, i.e. -1/2y is (-1/2)y.  Please tell me if it's really -1/(2y).

(-1/2)y=(1/2)x+5

Multiplying both sides by -2

y = - x - 10

The other equation is

y = 2x + 2

We can equate them to find the meet

y = - x - 10 = 2x + 2

-3x = 12

x = -4

y = 2x + 2 = -6

Check:  (-1/2)y=3, (1/2)x+5=3, equal, good

2x+2=2(-4)+2=-6=y, good

Answer: x=-4, y=-6

If the side lengths of a cube are 14 feet, what is the correct way to write the expression to represent the volume of the cube i
Kryger [21]

Answer: Choice A) 14^3

This is the same as writing 14^3

===================================================

Explanation:

Since all the sides are 14 feet long, we can basically say length = width = height = 14.

Or put another way:

  • length = 14
  • width = 14
  • height = 14

The volume of the cube is length*width*height = 14*14*14 = 14^3 = 2744 cubic feet.

-----------

The term 14^3 has a base of 14 and exponent of 3.

The base is what we multiply out while the exponent tells us how many copies of the base to multiply. In this problem, we have 3 copies of 14 being multiplied. So that's why 14^3 = 14*14*14

If you were to say something like 3^14, then you would have 14 copies of 3 multiplied out, which is a much larger value. So we'll cross choice B off the list.

Choice C isn't correct either since again we're using exponents and not multiplication to tie together the 14 and 3.

Choice D would be correct if your teacher wanted it in expanded form, instead of exponent form.

The following frequency table shows the number of fish caught by each of Igor's family members.
Maslowich

Step-by-step explanation:

The values on the left of the table represent the number of fish caught, and the number of the right of the table represents how many family members caught that amount of fish.

Therefore, the first row means that 0 family members caught 0 fish.

The second row means that 3 family members caught 1 fish.

The third row would mean 1 family member caught 2 fish.

The next row would mean 0 family members caught 3 fish.

And the final row would mean 4 family members caught 4 fish.

The question does not ask for the total amount of fish caught; rather is ask for the maximum number of fish that a single family member caught.

Therefore, the maximum amount of fish that a single family member catches is 4. (And 4 family members did so. But individually, the maximum amount of fish one person caught is 4).
