Well, it asks that you evaluate 24 for y.
Also, notice that it says "the difference of a number and 6"
So your equation should have been
y - 6

And after evaluating
24 - 6

Then solve
24 - 6 = 18
18 should have been the answer

So no, the student's work is not correct, because the student wrote a division expression instead of a subtraction equation

What is the solution to 6x^2 + 2x + 4 = 0?
Angelina_Jolie [31]

Step 1) Divide 6 and 4 (the last 2 numbers) and bring everything else down

6x^24x+2x+4

Step 2) Place in parentheses

(6x^24x)+(2x+4)

Step 3) Figure out what you can take out of each parentheses.

**In the first one, you can take out 6x because both numbers have x and 6 is the largest number 6 and 24 can go into.**

**In the second one, you can only take out 2 because 2 is the largest number that goes into 2 and 4.**

Step 4) You will know you did it correctly when the parentheses match up

6x(x+4) + 2(x+4) <<< this is how it should look

Answer: (6x+2)(x+4)

A school baseball team earned $3416.90 from selling 5716 tickets to their game. If grandstand tickets sold for 65 cents each and
Nataly [62]
Let g and b represent the numbers of grandstand and bleacher tickets sold.
.. g + b = 5716 . . . . . . . . . total number of tickets sold
.. 65g +40b = 341690 . . value of tickets sold

Using the first equation
.. g = 5716 -b
Sustituting into the second equation
.. 65(5716 -b) +40b = 341690
.. -25b + 371540 = 341690 . . . . . collect terms
.. -25b = -29850 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . subtract 371540
.. b = 1194 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . divide by -25

1194 bleacher tickets were sold.
