Without replacement from a small (8) number of balls means the binomial distribution is NOT applicable since the probability of each pick is not constant.

We can either use the hypergeometric distribution, or solve from first principles.
For simplicity for the given problem, we will solve it using the hypergeometric distribution.

HypergeometricUse hypergeometric distribution where:a=number of target items selectedA=total number of target items in the "pool" (3 white balls)b=number of non-target items selected (B=total number of non-target items in the "pool" (5 blue balls)Then P(a,b)=\frac{C(A,a)C(B,b)}{C(A+B,a+b)}where C(n,r)=\frac{n!}{(n!(n-r)!)} = combination of r items selected from n,A+B=total number of items = 3+5 = 8a+b=number of items selected=4
Case 1 : 2 white balls, => a=2, b=2, A=3, B=5
P(2W)=C(A,a)*C(B,b)/C(A+B, a+b)
=C(3,2)*C(5,2)/C(8,4)
=3*10/70
=3/7

Case 2: 3 white balls => a=3, b=1, A=3, B=5
P(3W)=C(3,3)*C(5,1)/C(8,4)
=1*5/70
=1/14

Therefore , by the rule of addition, the probability that two or three of the balls are white
P(2W ∪ 3W) = 3/7 + 1/14 = (6+1)/14 = 7/14 = 1/2

ziro4ka [17]

Answer:

1/6

Step-by-step explanation:

5/6 and 4/6 have the same common denominator so you dont have to mess with the bottom numbers. all you will do is subtract 5-4=1. now you have 1/6

Which value for x completes the conditional relative frequency table by column?
zheka24 [161]

Answer-

In the conditional relative frequency table by column, the value of x is 0.85

Solution-

From the paint color preference table,

Liked new paint color + Disliked new paint color = 1

\Rightarrow x+0.15 = 1

\Rightarrow x=1-0.15

\Rightarrow x=0.85

Therefore, we have x=0.85 or 85% of adults who like the new color of the paint.

What is -7 (3a-1)=91 what does a equal
Nastasia [14]

Answer:

a = -4

Step-by-step explanation:

Solve for a:

-7 (3 a - 1) = 91

Divide both sides of -7 (3 a - 1) = 91 by -7:

(-7 (3 a - 1))/(-7) = 91/(-7)

(-7)/(-7) = 1:

3 a - 1 = 91/(-7)

The gcd of 91 and -7 is 7, so 91/(-7) = (7×13)/(7 (-1)) = 7/7×13/(-1) = 13/(-1):

3 a - 1 = 13/(-1)

Multiply numerator and denominator of 13/(-1) by -1:

3 a - 1 = -13

Add 1 to both sides:

3 a + (1 - 1) = 1 - 13

1 - 1 = 0:

3 a = 1 - 13

1 - 13 = -12:

3 a = -12

Divide both sides of 3 a = -12 by 3:

(3 a)/3 = (-12)/3

3/3 = 1:

a = (-12)/3

The gcd of -12 and 3 is 3, so (-12)/3 = (3 (-4))/(3×1) = 3/3×-4 = -4:
