In neurology, we know that different areas of the brain have different functions and are in charge of different things.
The fusiform face area is located in the Inferior temporal cortex of the brain (in the temporal lobe of the brain). This area is mainly responsible for the ability to recognize faces. In other words it is specialized in facial recognition.
In this example, we are told that <u>Prosopagnosia is a visual disorder that impairs an individual's ability to recognize faces</u>. Therefore, the area of the brain that most likely contributes to this impairment is the fusiform face area.
Fusiform face area is the outer layer of the cerebrum located in the inferior temporal lobe of the brain. The major function of the fusiform face area is to recognise the faces.
When the fusiform face area is severely damaged it results in a neurological and visual impairment called Prosopagnosia. Prosopagnosia can also be referred to as face blindness.
