Some aircraft component is fabricated from an aluminum alloy that has a plane strain fracture toughness of 35 MPa m . It has bee

n determined that fracture results at a stress of 250 MPa when the maximum (or critical) internal crack length is 2.0 mm. For this same component and alloy, will fracture occur at a stress level of 325 MPa when the maximum internal crack length is 1.0 mm? Why or why not?;

Answer:  Fracture will not occur since Kc (32.2 MPa√m) ∠ KIc (35  MPa√m).

Explanation:

in this question we are asked to determine if an aircraft will fracture for a given fracture toughness.

let us begin,

from the question we have that;

stress = 325 MPa

fracture toughness (KIc) = 35  MPa√m

the max internal crack length = 1.0 m

using the formula;

Y = KIc/σ√(πα)    ---------------(1)

solving for Y we have;

Y =  35 (MPa√m) / 250 (MPa) √(π × 2×10⁻3/2m)

Y = 2.50

so to calculate the fracture roughness;

Kc = Y × σ√(πα)   = 2.5 × 3.25√(π × 1×10⁻³/2) = 32.2 MPa√m

Kc = 32.2 MPa√m

From our results we can say that fracture will not occur since Kc (32.2 MPa√m) is less than KIc (35  MPa√m) of the material.

cheers i hope this helps!!!!

The pressure in a water line is 1500 kPa. What is the line pressure in (a) lb/ft2units and (b) lbf/in2(psi) units?
n200080 [17]

Answer:

Part A:

1500\ KPa= 31328.145 \frac{lb}{ft^2}

Part B:

1500 KPa=217.55656 \frac{lb}{in^2}(Psi)

Explanation:

Part A:

Line Pressure is 1500 KPa

We need a conversion factor which converts KPa to lb/ft^2.

20.88543 \frac{lb}{ft^2}= 1\ KPa

In order to convert 1500 KPa to lb/ft^2, we proceed as:

1\ KPa=20.88543 \frac{lb}{ft^2} \\1500\ KPa= 1500 KPa*20.88543 \frac{lb}{ft^2.KPa}\\1500\ KPa= 31328.145 \frac{lb}{ft^2}

1500 KPa is 31328.145 lb/ft^2

Part B:

We will use the same procedure we did in Part A:

1 ft= 12 in

(1\ ft)^2=(12\ in)^2\\1 ft^2=144 in^2

Converting 1500 KPa\  into\  \frac{lb}{in^2}

1500\ KPa= 1500 KPa*20.88543 \frac{lb}{ft^2.KPa} * \frac{ft^2}{144\ in^2}

1500 KPa=217.55656 \frac{lb}{in^2}(Psi)

1500 KPa is 217.55656 lb/in^2 (psi)

The basic concept of feedback control is that an error must exist before some corrective action can be made?
weqwewe [10]

Answer:

The correct answer is True.

Explanation:

The feedback control system implies that to make a feedback, there must first be an error, otherwise there will be nothing to correct.

This system works so that there is an output that is controlled through a signal.

This signal will be feedback and it will signal an error which will be detected by a controller that will allow entry into the system.

In basic words, this system processes signals, samples them in the form of an output, and re-enters them feedback to detect the error signal.

In the idealized Otto cycle, heat is added during: a. Isentropic Compression b. Constant (minimum) volume c. Constant (maximum)
docker41 [41]

Answer:

(b) Constant (minimum) volume

Explanation:

In the idealized Otto cycle there are 4 process that are

  • Reversible adiabatic compression
  • Addition of heat at constant volume
  • Reversible adiabatic expansion
  • Rejection of constant volume

So from above discussion we can see that heat is added when there is constant (minimum) volume which is given in option (b) so option (b) will be the correct answer
