Alright!

As usual, x is equal to our time value, which in this case is the number of consecutive days the player he has practised for two hours. Now, they do give a large hint here for the question.

How many days can this basketball Playin' fool make an average of 9 consecutive free throws?

Well...

They tell you!

Let's plug in 9 for the value of x, and solve this here function -

f(9) = 1 + 1.5 (9 + 1).

f(9) = 1 + 1.5 * 10.

f(9) = 1 + 15.

f(9) = 16

It will take 16 days of practise!

Answer:

x = -1, and y = -2, giving you the answer (-1, -2)

Step-by-step explanation:

In the second equation, we're told that y is equal to 2x.  With that, we can replace "y" in the first one with "2x", giving us:

-4x - 2x = 6

-6x = 6

x = -1

Now that we know the value of x, we can simply plug it into the first equation to find y:

-4x - y = 6

-4(-1) - y = 6

4 - y = 6

-4 + y = -6

y = -6 + 4

y = -2

So x = -1, and y = -2
