Volatility is the property of a liquid to change phase to gas. As you know, the molecular arrangement of liquids and gases differ in the inter-spaces. The molecules of the gas is more widely distributed so they have less intermolecular forces. Therefore, a liquid with high volatility has very low intermolecular forces. This means that they could be easily separated from each other to conform to the molecular arrangement of a gas.

The parameter that is well associated with volatility is vapor pressure. Think of it this way, when the vapor pressure equals the atmospheric pressure, the liquid boils and changes phase into gas. So, we can say that a liquid with high volatility exhibits high vapor pressure. In this case, it would only take less energy for the vapor pressure to reach the much higher atmospheric pressure.

The surface temperature on Venus may approach 757 K. What is this temperature in degrees Celsius?
kotykmax [81]

Explanation:

1 ) Temperature of Venus in Kelvins =  757 Kelvins

0^oC=273 Kelvins

Temperature of Venus in degrees Celsius =757-273 K=484 K

2 ) Temperature on Mercury at night = -269^oF

(T)^oC=((T)^oF-32)\times \frac{5}{9}

(T)^oC=((-269)^oF-32)\times \frac{5}{9}=167.22^oC

Temperature on Mercury at night in degree Celsius = 167.22° C

Which of the following solutions is a buffer? Which of the following solutions is a buffer? a solution of sulfuric acid and sodi
Sever21 [200]

Answer:

a solution of acetic acid and sodium acetate

Explanation:

A buffer solution is defined as a solution which resist a change in pH when small quantity of a strong acid or a strong base are added. A buffer solution is made up of mixture of a weak acid and its conjugate base or a mixture of a weak base and its conjugate acid.

Acetic acid is the only option because it is a weak acid with a corresponding conjugate base, acetate. Unlike a solution of sulfuric acid and sodium sulfate in which the sulfuric acid is a strong acid which doesn’t qualify it to be a buffer solution. The remaining options have different acid compounds paired together which makes them invalid too.

Suppose that you take a sample of 500 g of ocean water and let the water evaporate. The mass of the remaining salts is 17 g. Wha
yanalaym [24]

<u>Answer:</u> The salinity of ocean water is 34 ppt.

<u>Explanation:</u>

Salinity is defined as the number of grams of salts present per kilogram of seawater. It is expressed in parts per thousand.

The formula used to calculate the salinity of ocean water or sea water is:

\text{ Parts per thousand}=\frac{\text{Mass of salts}}{\text{Mass of sea water}}\times 1000

We are given:

Mass of salts = 17 g

Mass of sea water = 500 g

Putting values in above equation, we get:

\text{ Parts per thousand}=\frac{17g}{500g}\times 1000\\\\\text{ Parts per thousand}=34

Hence, the salinity of ocean water is 34 ppt.
