A student sits at rest on a piano stool that can rotate without friction. The moment of inertia of the student-stool system is 4

.5 kg⋅m2 . A second student tosses a 2.0 kg mass with a speed of 3.0 m/s to the student on the stool, who catches it at a distance of 0.45 m from the axis of rotation.What is the resulting angular speed of thestudent and the stool?

Answer:

   w = 0.55 rad / s

Explanation:

For this exercise let's use the conservation of angular momentum, let's write the moment in two moments

Initial

    L₀ = r p + 0

    L₀ = r mv

The first term is the angular momentum of the mass

Final

      Lf = (I + m r²) w

Where I is the moment of inertia of the stool and the other term is the moment of inertia of the mass

      L₀ = Lf

      r mv = (I + m r²) w

      w = m r v / (I + m r²)

Let's calculate

      w = 2.0 0.45 3.0 / (4.5 + 2.0 0.45²)

      w = 2.7 / 4.9

     w = 0.55 rad / s

At the instant the traffic light turns green, a car that has been waiting at an intersection starts with a constant acceleration
Setler79 [48]

Answer:

(a) 300 ft

(b) 60 ft/s

Explanation:

distance d=0.5at^{2} where a is acceleration and t is time

d=0.5\times 6\times t^{2}=3t^{2}

Also, d=vt where v is the velocity

d=30t

Therefore

30t=3t^{2} hence t=10 s

Substituting t is either formula

d=30t=30*10=300 ft

Also

v=at hence v=6\times 10=60 ft/s

Direction: Write TRUE if the statement is correct, and FALSE if it is not
Ostrovityanka [42]

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When light strikes a black surface, it is reflected by the surface and

nothing is absorbed    This would be False because black absorbs the light not reflect

Mirrors are used in telescopes because they have the ability to reflect

True? Telescopes designed with mirrors avoid the problems of refracting telescopes. Because the light is reflected from the front surface only, flaws and bubbles within the glass do not affect the path of the light

Transmission in the passing of light through some materials

False? Some materials allow much of the light that falls on them to be transmitted through the material without being reflected. Materials that allow the transmission of light waves through them are called optically transparent. ... Materials which do not allow the transmission of any light wave frequencies are called opaque.

A projectile is thrown with an initial speed of 20 m/s at an angle 30 degrees above
ZanzabumX [31]
Initial velocity u = 20 m/s

Initial horizontal velocity = 20 cos30° = 20 * 0.866 = 17.32 m/sec.

Initial vertical velocity = 20 sin30° = 20 * 1/2 = 10 m/sec.

time taken t = u/g = 10/10 =1 sec. ( approximating g to 10m/sec^2)

Maximum height h = ut + 1/2 * g * t^2

h = 10 *1 - 1/2 * 10 * 1* 1

h = 10 - 5 = 5 metres.

Total time in air = 2t = 2 seconds.
