Answer:

The answer to the question is;

(a) The amount of work required to withdraw the mica sheet is 4.0×10⁻⁵ J

(b) The potential difference across the capacitor after the mica is withdrawn is 500 V.

Explanation:

To solve the question, we note that

The Capacitance of the capacitor is proportional to the dielectric constant, that is removal of the dielectric material will reduce the capacitance of the capacitor by a factor of the dielectric constant as follows

Energy stored in a capacitor is given by

E = \frac{1}{2} CV^{2}

Where:

C = Capacitance of the capacitor = 2.00 nF

V = Voltage = 100 V

Therefore before the dielectric material is removed, we have

E = \frac{1}{2}×2.00 × 10⁻⁹×100² = 1.0×10⁻⁵ J

Asfter the dielectric material is removed we have

E = 5× \frac{1}{2}×2.00 × 10⁻⁹×100² = 5.0×10⁻⁵ J

Since energy is neither created nor destroyed, we have

Change in energy of system  = 5.0×10⁻⁵ J - 1.0×10⁻⁵ J = 4.0×10⁻⁵ J

Work done on the system to remove the mica sheet = energy change of the system = 4.0×10⁻⁵ J.

(b) From the equation C = \frac{Q}{V}

Where

Q = Charge of the capacitor

V= Voltage

C = Capacitance of the capacitor, we have

Q, the charge of the capacitor is constant

and the final capacitance = \frac{Initial .capacitance}{5} = \frac{C_1}{5}

Therefore we have

V₁ = \frac{Q}{C_1}

V₂ = \frac{Q}{\frac{C_1}{5} } = {5} *\frac{Q}{C_1} = 5·V₁

The velocity increases by a factor of 5 and

V₂ = 5×V₁ =  5 × 100 V = 500 V.

An object is moving at a velocity of 3m/s. It accelerates to a velocity of 5.5m/s over a time of 9 s. What acceleration did it e
alexira [117]

Answer:

Acceleration(a) = \displaystyle\frac{v - u}{t}

v = final velocity = 5.5 m/s

u = initial velocity = 3 m/s

t = time = 9s

\displaystyle a = \frac{3-5.5}{9}

a = \displaystyle\frac{-2.5}{9}

a = -0.278 \ m/s^2 (approx)

A He–Ne laser illuminates a narrow, single slit that is 1850 nm wide. The first dark fringe is found at an angle of 20.0∘ from t
egoroff_w [7]

Answer:

Wavelength of light will be 632.73 nm

Explanation:

We have given width of the single slit d=1850nm-1850\times 10^{-9}m

Angle is given as \Theta =20^{\circ}

We have to find the wavelength of light for first dark fringe

We know that for dark fringe it is given that

dsin\Theta =n\lambda

For first fringe n = 1

So 1850\times 10^{-9}\times sin20^{\circ} =1\times \lambda

\lambda =632.73nm

Consider the example of a positive charge q moving in the negative z-direction with speed v with the local magnetic field of mag
MA_775_DIABLO [31]

Answer:

<em>F</em> = <em>0</em>

Explanation:

This problem can be solved by using the equation for the force produced by a magnetic field over a charge

<em>F</em> = q<u><em>v</em></u> X <em>B</em>

That is, the cross product between velocity and the magnetic field.

In this case, v is in the negative z-direction <em>v</em> = -v k^,

and the magnetic field is in the positive z-direction <em>B</em> = z k^

Hence, the cross product is

F = q<em>v </em>X <em>B</em> = 0i^ - 0j^ + 0k^ = <em>0</em>

In this case the net force is zero due to both velocity and magnetic field vectors are in the z-direction

A loop of wire is in a magnetic field such that its axis is parallel with the field direction. Which of the following would resu
ahrayia [7]

Answer:

All the given options will result in an induced emf in the loop.

Explanation:

The induced emf in a conductor is directly proportional to the rate of change of flux.

emf = -\frac{d \phi}{dt} \\\\where;\\\\\phi \ is \ magnetic \ flux\\\\\phi = BA\ cos \theta

where;

A is the area of the loop

B is the strength of the magnetic field

θ is the angle between the loop and the magnetic field

<em>Considering option </em><em>A</em>, moving the loop outside the magnetic field will change the strength of the magnetic field and consequently result in an induced emf.

<em>Considering option </em><em>B</em>, a change in diameter of the loop, will cause a change in the magnetic flux and in turn result in an induced emf.

Option C has a similar effect with option A, thus both will result in an induced emf.

Finally, <em>considering option</em> D, spinning the loop such that its axis does not consistently line up with the magnetic field direction will<em> </em>change the angle<em> </em>between the loop and the magnetic field. This effect will also result in an induced emf.

Therefore, all the given options will result in an induced emf in the loop.
