The greenhouse gases are defined as gases that absorbs and emit solar energy within a thermal IR range (infrared range). These gases trap the warmth of sun  in the lower atmosphere and thus, increase the temperature of environment.

The greenhouse gases result in greenhouse effect that causes increase in Earth's average temperature. Primary greenhouse gases, present in atmosphere of Earth include carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, ozone, and nitrous oxide.
