A carbide ion is an anion of carbon atom with two carbon atoms with a triple bond connected to each other. Since this carbide ion is a negatively charged ion, in order to convert carbide ion to its neutral carbon atom, it has to give up/remove four electrons.

A spring with k = 19.5 N/cm is initially stretched 1.39 cm from its equilibrium length. a) How much more energy is needed to fur
lara31 [8.8K]

Answer:

Energy needed = 54.02 J

Explanation:

the Energy in an elastic spring from hookes law is given  as

F= ke , therefore the energy (E) is

E = \frac{1}{2} Ke^{2}

K = 19.5 N/cm

e = 1.39cm

E = \frac{1}{2} x 19.5 x 1.39

E = 13.55 J

The energy to stretch the spring for 6.93cm is

E = \frac{1}{2} x 19.5 x 6.93

E = 67.57 J

The more energy needed for the further stretch is

67.57 - 13.55

Energy needed = 54.02 J

You and a friend both leave the same restaurant to drive home. You are heading directly west at 30 miles per hour and he or she
steposvetlana [31]

Answer:

\frac{dAB}{dt} = = 50 miles/ hour

Explanation:

let A represent me and B represent my friend

A speed\frac{dOA}{dt}=30 m/hr toward west

B speed\frac{dOB}{dt} =40 m/hr toward south

after 1/2 hr

total distance cover by A =1/2 * 30 miles = 15 miles

total distance by B = 1/2*40 miles = 20 miles

now from figure

AB = \sqrt{(15^2+20^2)} = 25 miles

AB^2 =OA^2+ OB^2

Differentiate above equation

2AB\frac{dAB}{dt} = 2OA\frac{dOA}{dt} +2OB\frac{dOB}{dt}

25*\frac{dAB}{dt} = 15*30 +20*40

\frac{dAB}{dt} = \frac{1250}{25}

\frac{dAB}{dt} = = 50 miles/ hour

Give a specific example of a scalar or vector quantity. Explain why thus type of quantity is used to describe this event.
dlinn [17]

Example of scalar: speed. Example of vector: velocity

Explanation:

In physics, there are two types of quantities:

- Scalar: a scalar quantity is a quantity having only magnitude, so it is just a number followed by a unit. Examples of scalar quantities in physics are:

Mass

Time

Speed

- Vector: a vector quantity is a quantity having both a magnitude and a direction. Examples of vector quantities in physics are:

Force

Acceleration

Velocity

The two types of quantities can be used in the same event, but in a different way. One of the most common example is the difference between speed and velocity.

In fact, let's consider an object moving in a uniform circular motion: it means that it is moving in a circle at a constant speed. The speed of the object measures only how fast the object is moving, but without telling anything about its direction of motion. The velocity, viceversa, also takes into account the direction of motion, and exactly for this reason, the velocity in a uniform circular motion is not constant, because the direction (it is a vector) is constantly changing. So, in a uniform circular motion, the speed is constant but the velocity is not.
