BASEBALL IN SPACE baseball in space You are observing a baseball in space, with mass m = 0.145 kg. It is moving past your spacec

raft with speed v = 22.9 m/sec, to the north. Your Acme Tractor Beam can exert 1.3 Newtons of pull force on that baseball. CALCULATE: How long will it take your Acme Tractor Beam to slow down the baseball to a stop? Enter the numeric part of your answer, to the nearest hundredth of a second, i.e., 0.01 sec. E.g., if your answer is 60.5329 sec, then type in 60.53 in the answer box.

Answer:

It takes 2.55 sec

Explanation:

First we need to find the aceleration with this equation:

F = m*a

a = \frac{F}{m}

Where:   F = 1.3 Newtons

              m = 0.145 kg

Then      a = \frac{1.3 Newtons}{0.145 kg}

              a = 8.9655 m/sec^{2}

Now we are ready to calculate the time with the next equation:

V_{f} = V_{o} + a*t

V_{f} - V_{o} = a*t

t = \frac{V_{f} - V_{o}}{a}

Where:   V_{o} = 22.9 m/sec   (at the beginning)

              V_{f} = 0 m/sec   (at the end because it stops)

We must use a = - 8.9655 m/sec^{2}   because in this case speed is decreasing

Finally:   t = \frac{0 m/sec - 22.9 m/sec}{- 8.9655 m/sec^{2} }

              t = 2.55 sec

Zinc plate used in the simple cell is not pure so impurities present in it provides a conducting path for the flow of charge. This makes zinc wasted. It is called the local action. It can be removed by using pure zinc or amalgamated zinc rod.

A closed system’s internal energy changes by 178 J as a result of being heated with 658 J of energy. The energy used to do work
nika2105 [10]

Answer:

480J

Explanation:

Using the formula:

Delta U = Q - W

Q:Heat (J)

Delta U: Changes in internal Energy (J)

W:Work (J)

We can plug in the give numbers, Q and W.

Delta U = 658J - 178J = 480J

A standard bathroom scale is placed on an elevator. A 25 kg boy enters the elevator on the first floor and steps on the scale. W
Keith_Richards [23]

Answer:

F = 255 N

Explanation:

It is given that,

Mass of the boy, m = 25 kg

Acceleration of the elevator, a=0.4\ m/s^2

The elevator is accelerating in upward direction. The net force acting on the boy is given by :

F=mg+ma

g is the acceleration due to gravity

F=m(g+a)

F=25\times (9.8+0.4)

F = 255 N

The scale reading is 255 N as it begins to accelerate upward. hence, this is the required solution.
