A flagpole has a height of 16 yards. It will be supported by three cables, each of which is attached to the flagpole at a point

4 yards below the top of the pole and attached to the ground at a point that is 9 yards from the base of the pole. Find the total number of yards of cable that will be required.

Cables are forming 3 right angled triangles the pole being the shared height of them;

(height) b= 12yd
(base) a= 9yd
(hypotenuse) c= ?
Need to find the long side (hypotenuse);

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

12^2 + 9^2 = 225
Take square root of 225 = 15
Then you have;

1x 12yd = 12
3x 9 yd = 27
3x 15yd = 45

Add them up = 84yd of cable needed

Answer: There are 45 yards of cable that will be required.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

Height of cable = 16 yards - 4 yards = 12 yards

Distance from pole = 9 yards

cable is the hypotenuse of the right angled triangle.

So, it becomes,

c^2=b^2+p^2\\\\c^2=1262+9^2\\\\c^2=144+81\\\\c^2=225\\\\c=\sqrt{225}\\\\c=15\ yards

Since , number of cable supported = 3

So, Number of yards of cable that will be required would be

3\times 15\\\\=45\ yards

Hence, there are 45 yards of cable that will be required.

John and Martha are contemplating having children, but John’s brother has galactosemia (an autosomal recessive disease) and Mart
Rina8888 [55]
<h2>Answer:</h2>

Probability=\frac{1}{24}

<h2>Step-by-step explanation:</h2>

As the question states,

John's brother has Galactosemia which states that his parents were both the carriers.

Therefore, the chances for the John to have the disease is = 2/3

Now,

Martha's great-grandmother also had the disease that means her children definitely carried the disease means probability of 1.

Now, one of those children married with a person.

So,

Probability for the child to have disease will be = 1/2

Now, again the child's child (Martha) probability for having the disease is = 1/2.

Therefore,

<u>The total probability for Martha's first child to be diagnosed with Galactosemia will be,</u>

Probability=\frac{2}{3}\times \frac{1}{2}\times \frac{1}{2}\times \frac{1}{4}\\Probability=\frac{1}{24}

(Here, we assumed that the child has the disease therefore, the probability was taken to be = 1/4.)

<em><u>Hence, the probability for the first child to have Galactosemia is \frac{1}{24}</u></em>

If a building was placed at coordinates (-5,5), what would be the new coordinates if rotated 270° counterclockwise around the or
Brums [2.3K]

The rule for a 270° counterclockwise rotation is (x, y) ---> (y, -x).

So if you rotated (-5,5) 270° counterclockwise around the origin the new coordinates would be (-5,-5).

Hope this Helps!!
