As infants grow from a toddler to a young adult, there may be times when they are ill and medication is needed. It is extremely

important that medication be administered in the exact dose so the child receives the correct amount. Too little or too much medication could have serious side effects. A popular children’s fever medicine manufacturer recommends the following dosage information to parents and pediatricians
a) Evaluate the data and find the rate of change from one age group to the next. Explain how you found the rate of change.

b)Is the relationship between weight and the amount of medicine linear? Explain.
Picture is added below.

Answer:

Each age is 12 more than the last so the rate of change would be twelve.

Yes it is linear, every twelve pounds is 2.5 more millimeters of dosage.

Answer:

a) Rate of change is 0.208

Rate of change is change in Y divided by the change in X. Let Y be the Dosage. Let X be the Weight.

Subtract first dosage from the second:

7.5 - 5 =2.5

Subtract the first weight from the second:

36 - 24 = 12

Now divide:

2.5 ÷ 12 = 0.208

b) It is linear. Instead of subtracting the first from the second, just subtract the second from third:

10 - 7.5 = 2.5

48 - 36 = 12

Or the third from the fourth

12.5 - 10 = 2.5

60 - 48 = 12

Or the fourth from the fifth

15 - 12-5 = 2.5

72 - 60 = 12

5/9(g + 18) = 1/6g +3
dangina [55]

For this case we have the following equation:

\frac {5} {9} (g + 18) = \frac {1} {6} g + 3

Applying distributive property on the left side of the equation we have:

\frac {5} {9} g + \frac {5 * 18} {9} = \frac {1} {6} g + 3\\\frac {5} {9} g + \frac {90} {9} = \frac {1} {6} g + 3\\\frac {5} {9} g + 10 = \frac {1} {6} g + 3

Subtracting \frac {1} {6} g to both sides of the equation:

\frac {5} {9} g- \frac {1} {6} + 10 = 3\\\frac {6 * 5-9 * 1} {9 * 6} g + 10 = 3\\\frac {30-9} {54} g + 10 = 3\\\frac {21} {54} g + 10 = 3\\\frac {7} {18} g + 10 = 3

Subtracting 10 to both sides of the equation:

\frac {7} {18} g = 3-10\\\frac {7} {18} g = -7

Multiplying by 18 on both sides:

7g = -7 * 18\\7g = -126

Dividing between 7 on both sides:

g = \frac {-126} {7}\\g = -18

Thus, the value of g is -18.

ANswer:

g = -18
