If there is a change in the environment, the particular species which does not manage to adapt either tries to translocate to a different habitat or it perishes. Adaptation requires a long time and does not happen overnight so if there is an option of moving out the animal adapts to do so. If that doesn’t happen we are looking at local extinction of the concerned species. This is one of the reasons why we are facing extinction of several species in our times. The rate at which we are changing the characteristics of habitats and even wiping out certain pristine habitats is leading to extinctions.
