Alright, lets get started.

Two sides of the rectange are 14 and s.

So, the area of the rectange would be = length * width

So, the area of the rectange would be = 14 s

A triangle is cut from the rectangle.

The height of the triangle is = \frac{s}{2}

The base of the triangle is = 14

So area of the triangle would be = \frac{1}{2} *base * height

area of the triangle would be = \frac{1}{2} * 14*\frac{s}{2}

area of the triangle would be = \frac{7s}{2}

So, the area of shaded region = area of rectange - area of triangle

the area of shaded region = 14 s -\frac{7s}{2}

As per given in question, area of shaded region is 84, hence

14 s -\frac{7s}{2}  = 84..........equation

So, this is the equation for s : Answer

Hope it will help :)

postnew [5]

Answer: А. On average, the number of students going to an office hour varies from the mean by about 2.2 students

Step-by-step explanation:

The standard deviation is a measure of spread, which gives how values deviate from the average or mean value of a particular distribution. Hence, the standard deviation is usually defined about the average value of a distribution.

Therefore, for a certain random variable representing the number of student who visits office hours, the standard deviation will be defined about the average or mean value of the random variable Q.

Thus, stated as ; number of students going to an office hour varies from the mean by 2.2 on average.
