For safety reasons all windshields need to be made of specific safety glass and have no cracks in them. The windshields need to be robust as flying or falling debris can strike a cars windshield at any point and if the glass is compromised with a crack in it or not made of safety glass the chance of injury to the driver is a lot higher when something hits it or in a collision. Also cracks can impair the drivers ability to see out of the windshield efficiently which to lead to an accident. If your headlights/tail lights are not functional this can lead to accidents while driving during bad weather or when dark.
