You throw a softball (of mass 300 g) straight up into the air. It reaches a maximum altitude of 10.1 m and then returns to you.

What is the gravitational potential energy of the softball at its highest position? Assume the ball departed from and returned to ground level.
Assume no energy is lost by the softball while it is in the air. What is the kinetic energy of the softball as soon as it leaves your hand? Answer in units of J.
What is the kinetic energy of the softball when it returns to your hand? Answer in units of J.
What is the speed of the ball? Answer in units of m per s.

Answer

given,

mass of the ball = 300 g

                           = 0.3 Kg

maximum altitude of the ball = 10.1 m

Potential energy of the softball:

PE = m g h

PE = 0.3 x 9.8 x 10.1

PE = 29.69 J

Maximum kinetic energy at which the ball is released from hand to reach height of 10.1 m is 29.69 J.

Kinetic energy at which ball returns to your hand is equal to 29.69 J.

speed of the ball

KE=\dfrac{1}{2}mv^2

29.69=\dfrac{1}{2}\times 0.3 \times v^2

       v² = 197.93

      v = 14.069 m/s

How do I calculate how many meters are in 7.2 light years?
Vikentia [17]

Answer:

68.2 Quadrillion meters

Explanation:

A lightyear is the distance that light travels in one year.

Speed of light is 3*10^8\ m/s

So light covers 300,000,000 meters in one second.

One year has 31536000 seconds so , light covers

9.461*10^{15}\  meters\ in\ one\ year

so 7.2 light years is

7.2*(9.461*10^{15})\\6.82*10^{16}

so 7.2 light years is

6.82 x 10^(16) meters or

68.2 Quadrillion meters

A flywheel with a radius of 0.200m starts from rest and accelerates with a constant angular acceleration of 0.900rad/s2.
kobusy [5.1K]

Answer:

The magnitude of the radial acceleration is 0.754 rad/s²

Explanation:

Given;

radius of the flywheel, r = 0.2 m

initial angular velocity of the flywheel, \omega_i = 0

angular acceleration of the flywheel, a = 0.900 rad/s².

angular distance, θ = 120⁰

the angular distance in radian = \frac{120}{180} \pi = \frac{2 \pi}{3}  \ rad

Apply the following kinematic equation to determine the final angular velocity;

\omega _f^2 = \omega _i ^2 + 2\alpha \theta\\\\\omega _f^2 = 0 + 2(0.9)(\frac{2\pi}{3} )\\\\\omega _f^2 = 3.7699\\\\\omega _f = \sqrt{ 3.7699} \\\\ \omega _f = 1.942 \ rad/s

The magnitude of the radial acceleration is calculated as;

\alpha _r = \omega ^2r\\\\\alpha _r  = (1.942)^2 (0.2)\\\\\alpha _r  =0.754 \ rad/s^2

Therefore, the magnitude of the radial acceleration is 0.754 rad/s²
