Drug#1: Marijuana

Marijuana is a drug used for medicine or personal uses that is made from part of a plant called Cannabis. Short-term side effects may include a decrease in short-term memory, dry mouth, impaired motor skills, red eyes, and feelings of paranoia or anxiety. Long-term side effects may include addiction, decreased mental ability in those who started as teenagers, and behavioral problems in children whose mothers used cannabis during pregnancy. There is a strong relation between cannabis use and the risk of psychosis.

Drug #2: Crack Cocaine

Crack cocaine, also known simply as crack or rock, is a free base form of cocaine that can be smoked. Crack offers a short but intense high to smokers. The Manual of Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment calls it the most addictive form of cocaine. Crack cocaine is commonly used as a recreational drug. Effects of crack cocaine include euphoria, supreme confidence, loss of appetite, insomnia, alertness, increased energy, a craving for more cocaine, and potential paranoia (ending after use). Crack is such a strong stimulant that it creates severe stresses on the heart, the vascular system, the lungs and the brain. Blood vessels constrict from the stimulation of the drug and over time, can harden. Then when further stimulation occurs, these damaged blood vessels can rupture, leading to a stroke. Damage to the heart can lead to a fatal heart attack or cardiac arrest.

quizlet i]n the heart, valves are located in the heart, valves are located just between the ventricles and the arteries. just be
ser-zykov [4K]

In the heart, the valves are located between atria and ventricles and between ventricles and arteries (option D).

What are valves in the heart?

Valves are membranous partitions which permit the passage of the contents of a vessel or cavity in one direction, but stop or control the flow in the opposite direction.

Valves in the heart enforce a one-way blood flow through the heart and separate atria from ventricles, and ventricles from the large arteries that leave them.

The four valves in the heart and their location is as follows:

 1. tricuspid valve: located between the right atrium and the right ventricle
 2. pulmonary valve: located between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery
 3. mitral valve: located between the left atrium and the left ventricle
 4. aortic valve: located between the left ventricle and the aorta.

The valves between the atria and ventricles are called atrioventricular valves or cuspid valves while those at the bases of the large vessels leaving the ventricles are called semilunar valves.

Therefore, it can be said that the valves of the heart are located between atria and ventricles and between ventricles and arteries.

How is the ATP produced in glycolysis like earning a return on an investment ?
telo118 [61]

Glycolysis is the first step of cellular respiration - the process comprised of series of reactions in which energy is extracted from glucose molecules. The process of glycolysis is almost same in all living organisms.

If we quickly overview the process of glycolysis, we see that it is a process of earning ATPs as a return on ATP investment, why?

 • 2 ATP molecules are invested during the first or preparatory phase pf glycolysis.
 • 2 ATP molecules are formed for each glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate molecule. Therefore, total four ATP molecules are produced.
 • Other than ATP, 1 NADH + H+ is also produced for each molecule of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate.

Therefore, total amount of 2 NADH and 4ATP molecules are produced.

But since, there was an investment of two ATPs during the preparatory phase of glycolysis. Therefore, a total of 4-2=2 ATPs is formed/ So it is like an earning on an investment.

Hope it help!
