The potential energy between two atoms in a particular molecule has the form U(x) = 2.6 x8 − 5.1 x4 where the units of x are len

gth and the numbers 2.6 and 5.1 have appropriate units so that U(x) has units of energy. What is the equilibrium separation of the atoms (that is the distance at which the force between the atoms is zero)?

5 0

Explanation:

The given equation is as follows.

         U = \frac{2.6}{x^{8}} - \frac{5.1}{x^{4}}

or,  \frac{dU}{dx} = \frac{2.6 \times (-8)}{x^{9}} - \frac{5.1 \times (-4)}{x^{5}}

                    = \frac{-20.8}{x^{9}} + \frac{20.4}{x^{5}}

We know that for equilibrium, F = -\frac{dU}{dx} = 0

               \frac{dU}{dx} = 0

  \frac{-20.8}{x^{9}} + \frac{20.4}{x^{5}} = 0

     \frac{20.4}{x^{5}} = \frac{20.8}{x^{9}}

                     x = 1.004 m

                        = 1 m (approx)

Thus, we can conclude that the equilibrium separation of the given atoms is 1 m.

What is the rate of chemical reaction?
babymother [125]

Explanation:

The rate of reaction is the speed at which a chemical reaction takes place, defined as proportional to the increase in the concentration of a product per unit time and to the decrease in the concentration of a reactant per unit time. Reaction rates can vary dramatically.

I have science and i have a question that says : an element is a (valuable, pure , rare) substance that is not chemically combin
mote1985 [20]

Answer:

It’s true ( pure).

Explanation:

An element is defined as a pure substance that is not chemically combined with any other elements. An element comprises of mainly the sane type of atoms.

While a compound is a substance that consists of two or more elements which are chemically combined together. This is the main difference between an element and a compound.

Given the equation representing a reversible reaction:
tester [92]

Answer:

- Acetic acid (CH₃COOH) and hydronium ion (H₃O⁺)

Explanation:

Hello,

In this case, based on the acid-base theory which states that acids are known as H⁺ donors, if we consider the direct reaction:

CH_3COOH(aq) + H_2O \rightarrow CH_3COO^-(aq) + H_3O^+(aq)

It is clear that the acetic acid is the first H⁺ donor as it losses one H⁺ to turn into the acetate ion. Moreover, if we consider the inverse reaction:

CH_3COO^-(aq) + H_3O^+(aq)\rightarrow CH_3COOH(aq) + H_2O

It is also clear that the hydronium ion is the second H⁺ donor as it losses one H⁺ to turn into water.

Best regards.
