Let x the half of the amount of bill
my payment a
payment of friend b

a= x + 5

b= x + 25% x = x + 1/4 x

Since you and your friend pay the same total, a=b

x+5 = x + 1/4 x

5= 1/4 x
x= 5 x4 = 20

the half of the bill is 20
