The graph shows the results of a famous biological experiment. In the experiment, Kettlewell believed that the peppered moth dem

onstrated how environmental pressures influence evolution. He studied two areas. Birmingham was a rural wood, with natural conditions. Dorset was an urban, industrial area. The moths use tree trunks to camouflage themselves against birds, which are their major predators. Natural gene variations produce a light form of the peppered moth, and a dark form, meaning that they are not equally visible.
All BUT ONE statement is supported by Kettlewell's data. That is

Question 1 options:

Answer:

A

Explanation:

Dark moths had a survival disadvantage in industrial Dorset. After the introduction of industry, the dark moth population remained approximately the same in Dorset to Birmingham. However, the light moths in the rural area still had a much larger population.

Answer:

C. Dark Moths had a survival disadvantage in industrial Dorset

Explanation:

Looking at the graph, you can see that the Dark Moth, compared to the Light Moth actually had a survival advantage.

I won't be explaining the why's to this phenomena, considering that the question is based solely on the graph.

Compare the two bars of Dorset. The Light Colored moths are represented by the green graph while the Dark colored moths are represented by the orange bar. The orange bar extends further that the green bar, showing that they recovered better than the other. So this means they were at an advantage and NOT at a disadvantage.

As the % organic content of a soil increases, what happens to 1) water holding capacity and 2) nutrient holding capacity?
cluponka [151]

Answer:

Explanation:

The organic matter present in the soil helps in improving the structure and stability of the soil. This affects in increase in pore size and also increases the volume of the soil.

The effect of organic matter on the following parameters is as follows:

1) Water holding capacity: The increase in pores in the soil will enhance the water holding capacity of the soil. The number of micropores and macropores will increase and this will lead to aggregation of the soil particles and will help in creating the favorable living environment for the soil microbes.

2) Nutrient holding capacity: The capacity of the soil to hold the nutrients that come from fertilizer or from natural sources is the nutrient holding capacity of the soil and it is against the leaching of the minerals from the soil. If the organic content of the soil increases it will readily absorb the nutrients obtain from natural source or from fertilizers. It will allow the nutrient exchange between plants and soil.

Mkey [24]

Answer:

A cell that has Damaged p53 gene , A) may become Cancerous; B) may experience uninhibited and out of control cell division; C) may accumulate multiple mutation.

Explanation:

  • p53 gene is a tumor suppressor gene that encodes a polypeptide that acts as a transcription factor.
  • Mutation in p53 is associated with 50% of human cancers.
  • Loss of p53 removes DNA damage check point.
  • Mutation in p53 prevents DNA repair and the apoptosis of cells that contain irreparable damage.
  • as a result the cells may accumulate multiple mutations.
  • Since Functional p53 promotes DNA repair and arrest the cell cycle if a damaged DNA is present; any mutation in p53 may result in uncontrolled cell growth and tumor formation.
