The substance which has mass and volume is said to be matter. Matter is classified as Pure substance (Element and Compound) and Mixture (Homogeneous and heterogeneous).

The simplest form of matter that has unique properties is known as element.

Elements can't break down into simpler units or substances by physical or chemical process. It is a  pure substance which is made up of single type of atom such as hydrogen is made up of hydrogen atoms only.

Every element has unique name and symbol such as name: iron and its symbol is Fe.

Hence, element is defined as the simplest form of matter that has unique properties.

Assuming that the bath contains 250.0 g of water and that the calorimeter itself absorbs a negligible amount of heat, calculate
Anvisha [2.4K]

Answer:

-3272     kJ/mol

Explanation:

Given and known facts

Mass of Benzene = 0.187 grams

Mass of water = 250 grams

Standard heat capacity of water = 4.18 J/g∙°C

Change in temperature ΔT = 7.48°C

Heat

=250 * 4.18 * 7.48\\=7816.6 \\=7.82

Heat released by benzine is - 7.82 kJ

Now, we know that

0.187 grams of benzene release = -7.82  kJ heat

So, 1 g benzine releases

\frac{ -7.82 }{0.187}\\= -41.8

kJ/g

0.187 * \frac{1}{78.108}=0.00239 mol C6H6

Heat released

= \frac{-7.82}{ 0.00239}

=-3272     kJ/mol

Briefly explain two chemical tests which can be used to identify the formation of this compound as aldehyde or ketone.
Sveta_85 [38]

Answer:

The correct answer is :

1) Fehling's test,

2) Tollen's test

Explanation:

1. Fehling's Test is the test that confirms the presence of aldehydes by the Fehling solution that contain copper ion with tartrate ions in NaOH solution. The color of the solution is blue due to presence of copper ions. In this test aldehydes are confirmed by the reduction of the blue solution to a insoluble precipitate of copper oxide red color while in presence of ketones there is no change.

2. Tollen's test is also a test that help in identifying the presence of aldehyde as the Tollen's reagents oxidizes aldehydes where ketones as they lack hydrogen in them.

Thus, the correct answer is : 1) Fehling's test,

2) Tollen's test.

A beaker is filled to the 500 mL mark with alcohol. What increase in volume (in mL) does the beaker contain when the temperature
Aliun [14]

Answer:

"1.4 mL" is the appropriate solution.

Explanation:

According to the question,

  • v_0=500
  • \alpha =1.12\times 10^{-4}
  • \Delta \epsilon = 25

Now,

Increase in volume will be:

⇒ \Delta V = \alpha\times v_0\times \Delta \epsilon

By putting the given values, we get

           =1.12\times 10^{-4}\times 500\times 25

           =1.12\times 10^{-4}\times 12500

           =1.4 \ mL

The knowledge produced by science builds on old ideas and is constantly changing.
VikaD [51]
Yes it is always changing, as time moves on new technological advancements are made. This makes it possible for new ideas to be created. For example the depiction of an atom went through many stages throughout the years in order to find out our current final version. New scientists and new ideas can add on to older ones, making explanations that make more scientific sense.
