Show all work to write the equations of the lines, representing the following conditions, in the form y = mx + b, where m is the
natima [27]
4x - 3y - 7 = 0
-3y = -4x + 7
y = 4/3x - 7/3....slope here is 4/3

A. a parallel line will have the same slope

y = mx + b
slope(m) = 4/3
(-2,1)...x = -2 and y = 1
sub and find b, the y int
1 = 4/3(-2) + b
1 = -8/3 + b
1 + 8/3 = b
3/3 + 8/3 = b
11/3 = b

so ur parallel line is : y = 4/3x + 11/3

B. A perpendicular line will have a negative reciprocal slope. To get the negative reciprocal of a number, u flip the number and change the sign. So our perpendicular line will need a slope of -3/4

y = mx + b
slope(m) = -3/4
(-2,1)...x = -2 and y = 1
sub and find b, the y int
1 = -3/4(-2) + b
1 = 3/2 + b
1 - 3/2 = b
2/2 - 3/2 = b
-1/2 = b

so ur perpendicular equation is : y = -3/4x - 1/2

Suppose y varies directly with x, and y= 10 when x=-2. What direct variation equation relates x and y? What is the value of y wh
Musya8 [376]

The statement " y varies directly as x ," means that when x increases,y increases by the same factor. In other words, y and x always have the same ratio:

= k

where k is the constant of variation.
We can also express the relationship between x and y as:

y = kx

where k is the constant of variation.

Since k is constant (the same for every point), we can find k when given any point by dividing the y-coordinate by the x-coordinate. For example, if y varies directly as x , and y = 6 when x = 2 , the constant of variation is k = = 3 . Thus, the equation describing this direct variation is y = 3x .

Example 1: If y varies directly as x , and x = 12 when y = 9 , what is the equation that describes this direct variation?

k =  =
y =  x

Example 2: If y varies directly as x , and the constant of variation is k =  , what is y when x = 9 ?

y =  x = (9) = 15

As previously stated, k is constant for every point; i.e., the ratio between the y -coordinate of a point and the x -coordinate of a point is constant. Thus, given any two points (x 1, y 1) and (x 2, y 2) that satisfy the equation, = k and = k . Consequently, = for any two points that satisfy the equation.

Example 3: If y varies directly as x , and y = 15 when x = 10 , then what is y when x = 6 ?

=
=
6() = y
y = 9

Answer:

The curve surface area(CSA) of a cylinder is 2πrh.

Since diameter=1.5 in.

          radius=diameter/2

                     =1.5/2 in.

                     =0.75 in.

And, the height of the bottle is 5 in.

Now,

CSA=2πrh

       =2π*0.75*5 in^2

       =15π/2 or 23.56 in^2

The size of the label needed to cover the entire bottle is 15π/2 or 23.56 in^2.
