Earth has been charted with vertical and horizontal lines so that points can be named with coordinates. The horizontal lines are

called latitude lines. The equator is latitude line 0. Parallel lines are numbered up to pi/2 to the north and to the south. If we assume Earth is spherical, the length of any parallel of latitude is equal to the circumference of a great circle of Earth times the cosine of the latitude angle. a. The radius of earth is about 6400 kilometers. Find the circumference of a great circle.

Refer to the figure shown below.

r = 6400 km, the radius of the earth

Part a.
The circumference of the great circle is
2πr = 2π*(6400 km)
      = 40212.4 km
Answer: 40212.4 km

Part b.
At a latitude with angle x = θ, the circumference2 of the latitude circle is
2π(r cos x) = 2π*(6400 cos(x)
                   = 40212.4 cos(x)
Note that the angle x is in radians.
Answer: The circumference is 40212.4 cos(x) km

Part c.
If a latitude circle has a circumference of about 3593 kilometers, then
40212.4 cos(x) = 3593
cos(x) = 3593/40212.4 = 0.0894
x = arcos(0.0894) = 84.9°
Answer: The latitude circle is at an angle of about 85°.

Part d.
The equator has latitude angle of 0°.
The circumference of the equator is
40212.4*cos(0°) = 40212.4 km
Answer: 40212.4 km

mixer [17]

Answer:

226

Step-by-step explanation:

Area of rectangle:

x+6=17

x=11

11+6=17

11+3=14

17×14=238

Area of triangle:

\frac{1}{2}  \times b \times h

Use phytagoras theorem to find the base of the triangle:

c²=a²+b²

5²=4²+b²

25=16+b²

b²=25-16

b²=9

b=√9

b=3 (only the half)

b=6 (the whole base)

\frac{1}{2}  \times 6 \times 4

3×4

12

Shades region:

238-12

=226

In a group of 60 numbers, average of
Arada [10]

Answer:

c. 18

Step-by-step explanation:

First, you would find the total sum of the 60 numbers. The average is always the sum of the numbers divided by the number of numbers.

35*18=630

15*10=150

Now we do not know how many numbers the last group has. However, we can find it out doing 60-35-15 to see how many numbers are left. There would be 10 numbers left

10*30=300

630+150+300=1080

1080/60=18

Hence, the answer is C(18)

Xander spends most of his time with his 10 closest friends. He has known 4 of his 10 friends since kindergarten. If he is going
Liula [17]
Note that there's a strict order here -> 2 close friends, then 1 non-close friend.

So, picking in order:
probability of picking the first close friend: 4/10
probability of picking the second close friend: 3/9
probability of picking the first non-close friend: 6/8

So, we get 4/10 * 3/9 * 6/8 = 1/10.

The area of a rectangular wall of a barn is 300 square feet. its length is 10 feet longer than twice its width. find the length
Savatey [412]

L * W = 300 sq ft
Length is 10 ft greater than twice the width.
L = 2W + 10
Substituting
(2W+10)*W = 300
2W^2 + 10W = 300
Divide both sides by 2
W^2 + 5W = 150
W^2 + 5W - 150 = 0
Factor
(W +15)(W -10) = 0

Roots are W=-15 and W=10.
A negative width is impossible, so W=10
L = 2W + 10
L = 2(10) + 10
L = 30

length = 30 feet, width = 10 feet

Check: 30*10 = 300

HELP!!!!! ASAP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
Nataly_w [17]

Answer:

Tangent line states that a line in the plane of a circle that intersect the circle in exactly one point.

Common external tangent states that a common tangent that does not intersects the line segment joining the centers of circle.

Common internal tangent states that a common tangent that intersects the line segment joining the centers of circle.

Circumscribe polygon states that a polygon with all sides tangent to a circle contained within the polygon.

Therefore:

A polygon with all sides tangent to a circle contained within the polygon = Circumscribe polygon

A common tangent that intersects the line segment joining the centers of circle = Common internal tangent

A common tangent that does not intersects the line segment joining the centers of circle = Common external tangent

a line in the plane of a circle that intersect the circle in exactly one point = Tangent line
