At 20 weeks' gestation, the fundus can be palpated at the
umbilicus. A fundus of 12 weeks' gestation is palpated at the symphysis pubis.
At 16 weeks' gestation, the fundus is midway between the symphysis pubis and
umbilicus. At 36 weeks' gestation, the fundus can be palpated just below the
ensiform cartilage.
<span>In clinical practice, a woman who is 20 weeks
pregnant would expect the nurse to palpate the fundus from the top of the
uterus to the superior edge of the pubic symphysis. This is done to measure the
size of the uterus and assess the fetal growth and development.</span>
When bubbles of air or any other gas cause a blockage of blood vessels in the circulatory system then this is known as air embolism.
There are several symptoms that are associated with this condition such as loss of consciousness, difficulty in breathing, bloody sputum, tremors, convulsions, etc.
Since in the given condition, the diver is having frothy blood in his mouth and since he ascended rapidly calling for help he is most likely to be suffering from an air embolism.
