Zytel Corporation produces cleaning compounds and solutions for industrial and household use. While most of its products are pro

cessed independently, a few are related. Grit 337, a coarse cleaning powder with many industrial uses, costs $2.20 a pound to make and sells for $3.40 a pound. A small portion of the annual production of this product is retained for further processing in the Mixing Department, where it is combined with several other ingredients to form a paste, which is marketed as a silver polish selling for $5.60 per jar. This further processing requires 1/4 pound of Grit 337 per jar. Costs of other ingredients, labor, and variable overhead associated with this further processing amount to $2.40 per jar. Variable selling costs are $0.40 per jar. If the decision were made to cease production of the silver polish, $8,800 of Mixing Department fixed costs could be avoided. Zytel has limited production capacity for Grit 337, but unlimited demand for the cleaning powder.
Required:1. Calculate the minimum number of jars of silver polish that would have to be sold to justify further processing of Grit 337. (Round your intermediate calculation to 2 decimal places and final answer to the nearest whole number.)

Answer:

4,513 approx.

Explanation:

The computation of the minimum number of jars of silver polish is shown below:-

Sales revenue for one jar of silver polish    $5.60

Sales revenue for 1/4 pound of Grit 337     0.85

($3.40 ×  1 ÷ 4)

Incremental revenue from

further processing                                        $4.75

($5.60 - 0.85)

Incremental costs of further processing:

Processing costs                      $2.40

Selling costs                              $0.40          $2.80

Incremental contribution

margin from further

processing into silver polish

per jar                                                            $1.95

($4.75 - $2.80)

Point of indifference denotes the point where all options are equally profitable. But after that we will see that more processing is profitable. This is due to the fixed costs involved in further production.

Thus Minimum number of jars needed to produce to justify the further processing = Avoidable Fixed cost ÷ Incremental contribution

= $8,800 ÷ $1.95

= 4,513 approx.

Over the last two decades the reduced importance of certain institutions in the primary mortgage market has been largely offset
Alinara [238K]

Answer:

Thrifts role have decreased whereas, mortgage and commercial banks roles have increased.

Explanation:

In simple words, Credit unions and cooperative savings banks are examples of thrifts that offer a multitude of deposits and lending services. Thrifts are different from conventional institutions in that organizations may draw money through the Federal Home Loan Bank Network, allowing them to charge greater interest to its members.

The ease of doing business and less documentation with commercial banks promoted their growth.

A semiprofessional baseball team near your town plays two home games each month at the local baseball park. They split the conce
Finger [1]

Answer:

c. 41

Explanation:

The first thing we need to do is evaluate the monthly costs of the team:

Monthly Costs: $100 for the park, $1,000 for the salaries.

Total: $1,100

They play 2 local games per month, so they have costs of $550 / local game.

Now, for each ticket they sell, they get $10 for the ticket and $3.50 in concessions. Assuming these are net money from the concessions, not just sales.  So, for each ticket sold, they get $13.50 in revenues.

To cover their $550/game costs they need to sell...

550 / 13.50 = 40.74 tickets... so 41 tickets are needed to cover those monthly costs.

A company would like to evaluate two incentive schemes that take effect once the worker exceeds standard performance. In the fir
Lerok [7]

Answer:

B) plan 1 : worker earning  y = x - 0.14  ,  unit labor = \frac{x-(0.14)}{x}

   plan 2 : worker earning y  = 0.5x + 0.5, unit labor = (0.5x + 0.5) / x

C) At 128%

D ) plan D IS PREFERABLE

Explanation:

In the first case Benefits are split : 30% to worker , 70% to company ( up to 120% ) performance

In the second case benefits 50% go to the worker and 50% go the company

B) The equations for worker earnings and normalized unit labor costs for each scheme

Plan 1 :

y  ( percentage earning of worker ) = 1

unit labor cost = Y / 1

y = 0 - 30

unit labor = 0.3 / x

y = x - 0.14  therefore unit labor = \frac{x-(0.14)}{x}

plan 2 :

y  ( percentage earning of worker ) = 1,   y  = 0.5x + 0.5

unit labor cost :  Y / 1  =  (0.5x + 0.5) / x

C )  The point at which the two plans break even

0.5x + 0.5 = x - 0.14

0.5 + 0.14 = x - 0.5x

0.64 = x(1 - 0.5 )

x = 0.64 / 0.5 =  1.28 = 128%

D) The company would prefer plan 1

A family spends $40,000 on living expenses. With an annual inflation rate of 6 percent, they can expect to spend approximately _
il63 [147K]

Answer: $42,400

Explanation:

The family currently spends $40,000 on living expenses.

Inflation is expected to be 6% and as Inflation is used to refer to the general rise in prices, this means that the family will be spending 6% more in one year.

They will therefore be spending;

= 40,000 * (1 + 6%)

= $42,400
