The right answer is C. The offspring are genetically distinct ... by sexual reproduction.

Sexual reproduction, as opposed to asexual reproduction, indicates that the propagation of a species involves male and female gametes. It is the main method of reproduction of multicellular organisms.

In the first stage of sexual reproduction, meiosis, the number of chromosomes is reduced from a diploid number (2n) to a haploid number (n). During fertilization ("fertilization"), haploid gametes come together to form a diploid zygote and restore the initial number of chromosomes (2n).

Answer: C. The offspring are genetically distinct from the parents because they are produced by sexual reproduction.

Explanation: Sexual reproduction occurs through the fusion between an egg and a sperm cell. Each of these cells has a single set of chromosomes and thus are haploid. As a result, the offspring will be a diploid organism with half of its genetic material coming from the mother and half from the father.

Because the offspring is a combination of the parental genetic information, its own genetic setup will be thus unique compared with that of each parent.

The type of reproduction in which the offspring is identical to the parent is called asexual reproduction. Here, one organism produces a genetic copy of itself, without exchanging genetic information with another organism through sex.

Apicomplexans evolved from a photosynthetic ancestor and have the remnant of a chloroplast. This organelle no longer acts in pho
atroni [7]

Answer:

Apicomplexans can be described as parasites which can cause diseases such as malaria inside the host cell. These organisms are known to evolve from the green algae. The remnant chloroplast present in them is used for various drug therapy studies. Their chloroplast can be used to test for various antibiotics and herbicides. This is because their chloroplast has evolutionary similarities with chloroplasts present in other organisms such as the cyanobacteria.

Which of the following statements are true? Check
Akimi4 [234]

Answer:

A copy of DNA is passed on to new offspring.

Replication is the process by which DNA is copied.

Explanation:

During cell division, the DNA molecule in the parent cell must replicate accurately before the cell divides. The two strands are believed to separate. Each strand becomes a template that specifies the base sequence of a new complementary strand. Through the action of replicating enzymes, free nucleotides come and take up positions along the template strands. Covalent bonds are then formed between the new nucleotides resulting in formation of new DNA strand.

Threonine is a standard amino acid with a polar side chain.Identify the chiral centers in threonine. a. the carboxyl carbon b. t
luda_lava [24]

Answer:

Threonine has two chiral centers.

The correct options are c. carbon b and d. carbon c

Explanation:

Chiral centers are those that have four different groups of atoms bonded to it. Carbon a has three atoms of hydrogen attached to it so it can't be a chiral carbon. It isn't the carboxyl carbon either since it is double bonded to oxygen. And the amino nitrogen does not qualify anyway because it is bonded to three different groups of atoms, not four.
