Answer:

The standard equation of parabola:

y =a(x-h)^2+k             ....[1]

where, vertex = (h, k) and a is any constant value.

As per the statement:

In the given graph of parabola:

Vertex of parabola = (-2, -4)

⇒h = -2 and k= -4

Substitute in [1] we have;

y =a(x+2)^2-4               ....[2]

Since, the graph of parabola cuts at y-axis at (0, -8)

Substitute this point in [2] to solve for a, we have;'

-8=a(0+2)^2-4

⇒-8=a(2)^2-4

Add 4 to both sides we have;

-4=a(2)^2

⇒-4=4a

Divide both sides by 4 we have;

a = -1

then, the equation become:

y =-1(x+2)^2-4

Therefore, the equation of the graph is, y =-(x+2)^2-4

A corporation reported profits of approximately $600 million with approximately $11 million in revenues. Compare the profit to
Alja [10]

Answer:

For every $55 revenue, $3 is profit

Step-by-step explanation:

A corporation reports profit of 600,000,000

Revenue of 11,000,000,000

Therefore comparing the revenue to profit can be calculated as follows

= 600,000,000/11,000,000,000

= 6/110

= 3/55

Hence for every $55 revenue $3 out of it is the profit

8. A triangle has sides with lengths of 6, 8, and 10 units, and a square has a
svet-max [94.6K]

Difference between the area of the triangle and square is 25

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Step 1: Find the area of the triangle given its 3 sides using the Heron's formula.

Area of the triangle = \sqrt{s (s-a)(s-b)(s-c)} where s = \frac{a + b + c}{2}

⇒ s = (6 + 8 + 10)/2 = 24/2 = 12

\sqrt{s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)} = \sqrt{12(12-6)(12-8)(12-10)}

                                    = \sqrt{12(6)(4)(2)} = \sqrt{576} = 24 sq. units

  • Step 2: Find the area of the square with perimeter = 28 units.

Perimeter of the square = 4 × side = 28

⇒ Side of the square = 28/4 = 7 units

⇒ Area of the square = (side)² = 7² = 49 sq. units

  • Step 3: Find the difference between the area of the square and triangle.

Difference = 49 - 24 = 25
