Many important biochemicals are organic acids, such as pyruvic acid ( p K a = 2.50 ) and lactic acid ( p K a = 3.86 ) . The conj

ugate bases are pyruvate and lactate, respectively. For each acid, determine which form—the acid or the conjugate base—predominates at pH 7.4. A graphic shows a check mark inscribed on a colored circle. 6

Answer:

Pyruvic acid: conjugate base

Lactic acid: conjugate base

Explanation:

The ratio of conjugate base to conjugate acid can be found using the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation when the pH and pKa are known.

pH = pKa + log([A⁻]/[HA])

The equation can be rearranged to solve for the ratio:

pH - pKa = log([A⁻]/[HA])

[A⁻]/[HA] = 10^(pH-pKa)

Now we can calculate the ratio for the pyruvic acid:

[A⁻]/[HA] = 10^(pH-pKa) = 10^(7.4 - 2.50) = 79433

[A⁻] = 79433[HA]

There is a much higher concentration of the conjugate base.

Similarly for lactic acid:

[A⁻]/[HA] = 10^(pH-pKa) = 10^(7.4 - 3.86) = 3467

[A⁻] = 3467[HA]

For lactic acid the conjugate base also dominates at pH 7.4

Which of the following statements is true about natural gas? It can be used directly in homes. It does not pollute the atmospher
yKpoI14uk [10]

Answer:

It can be used directly in homes

Explanation:

The natural gas is one of the fossil fuels that is used on a large scale. It can be used directly in homes, as there are lot of things that have been made to run on natural gas, be it for cooking or heating. Even though this fossil fuel doesn't contribute as much to the pollution of the atmosphere as the oil and the coal, still manages to have part in it. The majority of the pollution of the natural gas comes while it is transported. Through the transportation very often there's leaking of the natural gas. As it leaks, the natural gas releases lot of methane into the atmosphere, and the methane is a more effective greenhouse gas even than the CO2, though only on the short term.

A lamp has a mass of 8 kg. What is the weight of the lamp?
____ [38]
78. g on earth is 9.8 m/s^2 so F=ma and plugging in gives you F=(8kg)(9.8m/s^2) which is closest to 78 N.

Which of the following is true for the endothermic reaction Ba(OH)2(aq) + NH4NO3(aq) --> Ba(NO3)2(aq) + 2NH3(aq) + 2H2O(l)?
Alchen [17]
If it's an endothermic reaction, then that means heat is being added to the system therefore H>0. Entropy is disorder, and since there are more moles on the products side, entropy is increasing therefore S>0 as well.
