I don't get area and the distributive property

What about area and distributive property? example question maybe?

Area is just the length multiplied by the width 
and distributive property is multiplying the number outside of the brackets with the numbers inside the brackets 
like this
3(5+4)
u would do  3x5=15
and then 3x4=12
which is 15+12=27
