17. What is the area of the figure below?
Sidana [21]

If length of rectangle is 8 cm, breadth is 4 cm, side of square is 3 cm, base of triangle is 3 cm, then the area of figure will be 48.5 cm^{2}.

Given that length of rectangle is 8 cm, Breadth of rectangle is 4 cm,side of square is 3 cm,base of right angled triangle is 3 cm,height of triangle is 5 cm.

Area of figure=Area of rectangle+Area of square+Area of triangle

Area of rectangle=length*breadth

Area of square=Side*Side

Area of triangle=1/2 *Base*Height

Area of figure=8*4+3*3+1/2 *3*5

=32+9+1/2 *15

=41+15/2

=(82+15)/2

=97/2

=48.5 cm^{2}

Hence if length of rectangle is 8 cm, breadth is 4 cm, side of square is 3 cm, base of triangle is 3 cm, then the area of figure will be 48.5 cm^{2}.

Explain what is meant by confounding. what is a lurking variable? what is a confounding variable?

Answer:

A Confounding is the variable that is considered in a research study, and could overall influence the relations between the variables in the study. For example, students wanting to join AP English next semester were told to write a six page essay. When the students turned in their papers and teachers say the difference and grades they believed that the variable was the time that the students handed in the paper. They thought that if the student handed in their paper later than another student that they would receive a lower score, but this was not the case. When asking the students how they prepared for the paper, students replied with different answers. Those who outlined and used other literature for reference scored much higher than those who only used prior knowledge to write their essays. In this study, the lurking variable would be the presence of an outline.

Lurking variable: A variable that is not considered in a research study that could influence the relations between the variables in the study

Confounding variable: A variable that is considered in a research study that could influence the relations between the variables in the study

Find an equation of the plane with x-intercept a, y-intercept b, and z-intercept c. What is the distance between the origin and
Elenna [48]

Answer:

The equation is:

(1/a)x + (1/b)y + (1/c)z = 1

Step-by-step explanation:

The direction vector between the points (a, 0, 0) and (0, b, 0) is given as:

<0 - a, b - 0, 0 - 0>

<-a, b, 0> .....................(1)

The direction vector between (0, 0, c) and (0, b, 0) is given as:

<0 - 0, b - 0, 0 - c>

= <0, b, -c> .....................(2)

To obtain the direction vector that is normal to the surface of the plane, we take the cross product of (1) and (2).

Doing this, we have:

<-a, b, 0> × <0, b, -c> = <-bc, -ac, -ab>

To find the scalar equation of the plane we can use any of the points that we know. Using (0, b, 0), we have:

(-bc)x + (-ac)y + (-ab)z = (-bc)0 + (-ac)b + (-ab)0

(bc)x + (ac)y + (ab)z = (ac)b

Dividing both sides by abc, we have:

(1/a)x + (1/b)y + (1/c)z = 1
