Answers:

  • System 1:  x = 3 and y = -5
  • System 2: x = 1 and y = 2

==========================================================

Explanation:

For now, let's focus on system 1.

We have identical copies of "2y" in each equation, which means that if we were to subtract the equations straight down, then the y terms cancel out. That allows us to solve for x.

  • The x terms subtract to 7x-x = 6x
  • The y terms subtract to 0 and go away
  • The right hand sides subtract to 11 minus (-7) = 11-(-7) = 11+7 = 18

After doing those subtractions, we have the new equation 6x = 18 which solves to x = 3. Divide both sides by 6 to isolate x.

Once we know x, we can find out y.

7x+2y = 11

7(3)+2y = 11

21+2y = 11

2y = 11-21

2y = -10

y = -10/2

y = -5

or we can say

x+2y = -7

3+2y = -7

2y = -7-3

2y = -10

y = -10/2

y = -5

We should lead to the same y value either way. This helps confirm we have the correct x value.

Overall, the solution to system 1 is (x,y) = (3, -5)

----------------------------

Now onto system 2.

Unfortunately, we don't have identical y terms this time. But what we can do is double everything in the second equation to go from -x+y = 1 to -2x+2y = 2.

The new equivalent system is

\begin{cases}7x+2y = 11\\-2x+2y = 2\end{cases}

Now we have the same situation as before: Subtract straight down, solve for x.

  • The x terms subtract to 7x-(-2x) = 7x+2x = 9x
  • The y terms go away when subtracting
  • The right hand sides subtract to 11-2 = 9

So we have 9x = 9 and that solves to x = 1.

We'll use this x to find the y value.

7x+2y = 11

7(1)+2y = 11

7+2y = 11

2y = 11-7

2y = 4

y = 4/2

y = 2

Or you could pick on the second equation

-x+y = 1

-1+y = 1

y = 1+1

y = 2

Adult tickets to a play cost $2.25 each and student tickets cost $1.25 each. Suppose there are twice as many student tickets sol
Ganezh [65]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  • 300 adult tickets
  • 600 student tickets

Step-by-step explanation:

We can group tickets into a group that has 2 student tickets and 1 adult ticket for a price of 2($1.25) +2.25) = $4.75. The number of these groups sold is ...

  $1425/4.75 = 300

300 adult tickets and 600 student tickets were sold.

Suppose at a large university, 60% of the students have a Visa card and 40% of the students have a MasterCard. Also, 30% of the
Doss [256]

Answer:

0.6,0.7,0.3 neither disjoint nor independent.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that at a large university, 60% of the students have a Visa card and 40% of the students have a MasterCard.

A= visa card

B = Master card

P(A) = 0.60 and P(B) = 0.40

P(AUB)' = 0.30

i.e. P(AUB) = 0.70

Or P(A)+P(B)-P(AB) =0.70

P(AB)= 0.30

Randomly select a student from the university.

1) the probability that this student does not have a MasterCard.

= P(B') = 1-0.4 =0.6

2.  the probability that this student has either a Visa card or a MasterCard.

=P(AUB) = 0.70

3. Calculate the probability that this student has neither a Visa card nor a MasterCard.

=P(AUB)' = 0.30

4. Are the events A and B disjoint? Are the events A and B independent?

A and B have common prob 0.30 hence not disjoint.

P(AB) ≠P(A)P(B)

Hence not independent

Alaina has 7 in her bank account and earns 6 each day . joel has 48 in his banck account and earn 8 earch day in how many days w
Elis [28]

Answer:

I think you wrote something wrong.

Step-by-step explanation:

If Alaina has $7 in her bank account and Joel had $48 in his Joel already has more then Alaina but I will attempt to teach you how to solve these types of problems.

for this example I'm giving Alaina 79 dollars.

First we know were starting with 79 dollars and increasing 6 dollars each day so the equation for this is; y = 6x + 79 that is Alaina's equation.

For Joel our equation will be; y = 8x + 48.

Since they already have 79 and 48 dollars in their bank we put those as our B in the equation cause they are our y-intercepts. (Y = mx + b) Next we know their increasing by 6 and 8 dollars a day so we make those our m. Once we have these equations we can plot them and see where the lines meet. (thats our answer) I plotted them on desmos graphing calculator.

They crossed at (15.5, 172) Which means it will take 16 days for Joel to catch up they will both have 172 dollars in the bank account on the 16th day.

Hope this helps!

Write an equation in point-slope form
stepladder [879]
I believe is C because the formula is

Y = mx + b

Since your m value is -6/5 and your x value is -3, and y value is -7

Then your answer would be

Y - 7 = -6/5 (x - 3)
