Chris was ready for his science class and he was super excited since it was the day to do a science experiment. When he got to the door of the classroom, the teacher said, “Take a pair of goggles, and go wash your hands.” Chris was so excited that he just went straight to his desk without doing anything the teacher said. The teacher then said for everyone to put on the goggles and not touch any experiment objects. He then opened the mysterious bottle of black powder-like substance and quickly dusted it off when the teacher walked over. Then the teacher said, “Let’s begin, take your water and dump it into the tube and mix in the powder, let me show you guys before you start,” and then Chris dumped it in, then the experiment can exploding out of the tube right into his face. He ran to the sink and washed it out. Then the teacher came and asked, “Why didn’t you wear your goggles? And I told you to wash your hands, it wouldn’t have exploded if it wasn’t contaminated. Also, didn’t I tell you to wait for my demonstration first?” Chris felt ashamed, but the teacher was nice enough to give him another chance. Once he caught up with the class, he smelled some ingredients even though the teacher said not to smell, taste, or touch any unknown things, and that’s what he did. The teacher sent him home since he wasn’t following any rules.

What is the mass of a piece of iron that releases 179.85 joules of heat as it cools from 51.29 degrees Celsius to 31.42 degrees
Sedaia [141]

Answer:

20.11 g.

Explanation:

What is given?

c (specific heat of iron) = 0.450 J/g °C.

Q (heat energy) = 179.85 J.

ΔT (change of temperature) = |31.42 °C - 51.29 °C| = 19.87 °C.

What do we need? Mass of iron (m)

Step-by-step solution:

Let's see the formula of specific heat:

c=\frac{Q}{m\cdot\Delta T}

Where c is specific heat, Q is heat energy, m is mass and ΔT is the change of temperature.

We just have to solve for 'm' to find the mass of iron and replace the given data that we have, like this:

m=\frac{Q}{c\cdot\Delta T}=\frac{179.85\text{ J}}{0.450\text{ }\frac{J}{g\cdot\degree C}\cdot19.87\degree C}=20.11\text{ g.}

The mass of the iron would be 20.11 g.

Magnesium carbonate, MgCO3, reacts with nitric acid, HNO3, to form magnesium nitrate and carbonic acid. Carbonic acid reacts to
Karolina [17]
Carbonic acid undergoes decomposition reaction.  Decomposition reaction starts with one reactant and forms two or more products: AB⇒A+B. In this reaction, H2CO3 ⇒H2O + CO2.
