The Legislative branch embodies two important constitutional principles namely separation of powers and checks and balance. The Legislative branch which includes the House of Representatives and the Senate  embodies the principle of separation of powers because it has certain powers that the Executive and  Judiciary branches do not have. Example of such is that both the House of Representatives and the Senate have the power to create and pass laws. Another thing is the Senate has the power to approve treatise. In so doing, it is in the separation of powers that the principle of check and balance applies because if all the powers have been vested in one branch like the executive branch then the President and the Vice-President will have the tendency to control everyone and do things according to their whims. For one thing the House of Representatives and the Senate have the power to impeach government officials who is proven guilty of going against the law.
