Which expression is equivalent to 2 (14x-37+28x+12.2-5y-17.5)?
ziro4ka [17]

Answer:

A. 84x - 16y - 10.6

Explanation:

\sf \rightarrow 2(14x-3y+28x+12.2-5y-17.5)

\sf \rightarrow 2 (42x-8y-5.3)

apply distributive method: a(b + c) = ab + ac

\sf \rightarrow 2 (42x) -2(8y)-2(5.3)

\sf \rightarrow 84x -16y-10.6

Write an equation for a parabola in which the set of all points in the plane are equidistant from the focus and line. F(–2, 0);
UNO [17]
The line is called the directrix.  Here we have a vertical directrix, so a parabola sideways from usual.

Geometry is best done with squared distances.  The squared distance from an arbitrary point (x,y) to the vertical line x=2 is (x-2)^2.

We equate that to the squared distance of (x,y) to the focus (-2,0):

(x-2)^2 = (x - -2)^2 + (y - 0)^2

x^2 -4x + 4=x^2 +4x +4 + y^2

-8x = y^2

We could call that done.  A more standard form might be

x =- \dfrac 1 8 \ y^2

49–2ax –a^2–x^2 factor
vampirchik [111]

49–2ax –a^2–x^2

Extract the negative sign

= 49 - (a^2 +2ax +x^2)

Factor using a^2 + 2ab + b^2 = (a+b)^2

= 49 - (a+x)^2

Factor using a^2 - b^2 = (a-b)(a+b)

= ( 7- (a + x)) * (7 + (a + x))

= ( 7- a - x) * (7 + a + x)
