Fenton is building a model of a living room. The model sofa is 16 inches long and 7 inches deep. The real sofa's dimensions are

80 inches long and 35 inches deep. Is the ratio of the model's dimensions equivalent to the ratio of the real sofa's dimensions? Explain your reasoning.

So the proportions are respectively:
16:80
7:35
for long and deep. Therefore the dimensions are equivalent because there is a ratio of 5 between the dimensions:
16(5) = 80
7(5) = 35

The formula for finding the area of a triangle is:
\frac{1}{2} bh

So for the square the area would be:
{2x}^{2} \times  {2x}^{2}  =  {4x}^{2}

The area for the triangle would be:

\frac{1}{2}  {2c}^{3}  \times  4c =  {4c}^{2}
