DaniilM [7]

It makes sense that cell membranes are made of phospholipids because water cant mix in with lipids, so the phospholipids will be able to effectively block out any unwanted water or chemicals suspended in water outside of the cell.

Which factor does not greatly influence the rate of
jonny [76]

Answer:

a. transcription

Explanation:

Sugar transport in phloem is referred to as pressure flow and it involves the movement of sugar through the phloem vascular tissue from the regions where sugar is synthesized (by photosynthesis) to other parts of the plant's body that require sugar.

The parts of plants where sugar is synthesized (usually the leaf) is known as sugar source while the parts where they are transported is referred to as the source. Sources are usually areas of of high osmotic concentration and high water pressure while sinks are usually areas of low osmotic concentration and low water pressure.

Hence, sugar transport in the phloem can be said to be influenced by the rate of sugar production at the source (rate of photosynthesis), turgor pressure as well as sugar concentration in sinks and sources.

The only option that has no known effect on sugar transport in the phloem is transcription.

The correct option is a.

Describe both innate and acquired immune systems and the importance of vaccines.
lbvjy [14]

Answer:

Innate immunity is a non-specific immune system which provides defence against any pathogenic microorganism in early stages. It includes physical barrier such as skin, chemical barriers such as saliva, tears, et cetera, phagocytic cells such as macrophages, et cetera.

Acquired immune system is the one which develops after exposure to pathogen or antigen. It is highly specific in nature. It includes B-lymphocytes and T-lymphocytes. It includes the production of antibodies.

Vaccines are used to develop acquired immunity in people. The process is termed as vaccination or immunisation. Heat-killed or weakened pathogen or antigen is inserted into a person after which a person develops antibodies and memory cells against that pathogen or disease. So, the immune system acts more vigorously against that pathogen in secondary infection.

Thus, a person becomes immunised.

How do accessory pigments help chlorophyll?
erastova [34]
The compounds present in plants that, in a way, assist in the absorption of light during the process of photosynthesis, are accessory pigments. As their name suggests, they act as helpers or assist chlorophyll in absorption of light. These may be chlorophyll variants or other classes.
