A photon of ultraviolet light hits double-stranded dna and creates a covalent cross-link between adjacent thymines in the same s

A photon of UV light causes mutations in the double-stranded DNA via a photochemical reaction. The product of such photochemical reaction in DNA is a cyclobutane pyrimidine dimer. Dimers may be repaired by mechanisms of photoreactivation or nucleotide excision repair (NER), but if the repair doesn’t occur dimers are mutagenic.

UV light is absorbed by a double bond in pyrimidine bases (thymine and cytosine in DNA). The bond is opened and UV-modified base can now react with neighbouring molecules. If neighbouring molecule is another pyrimidine base, the UV-modified base forms direct covalent bonds with it. A cyclic ring (cyclobutane), not normally found in DNA, is formed (links the two pyrimidines). Next step is forming a single bond between two carbon atoms on the rings. The product of this reaction is a 6-4 molecule pyrimidine-pyrimidone which is more mutagenic than cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers.

Lactase is essential for digesting lactose in milk. This enzyme is specific for this sugar. Why?Molecules and active sites vary
VladimirAG [237]

Answer:

There is a precise compatibility between the active site and the lactose molecule.

Explanation:

An enzyme's active site has a specific shape, where only the substrate it is designed for can fit. It's much like a puzzle, where you must have the right pieces join together or else you wont get a coherent picture.

Which statement does NOT accurately describe eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells?
gulaghasi [49]

Answer:

You did not provide any options so i will give some facts that will hopefully help you in figuring out the correct answer.

For prokaryotic cells, the cell wall is a tough, fibrous layer that protects the cell and gives it shape and rigidity.

Prokaryotic cells are found in the domain(s) Bacteria and Archaea.

True: Prokaryotic cells have nucleoids and eukaryotic cells have nuclei.

A prokaryotic cell is distinct from a eukaryotic cell because a prokaryotic cell lacks _a nucleus_.

There is only _1_ eukaryotic domain, it is Eukarya.
