Your friend is catching a falling basketball after it has passed through the basket. Her hands move straight down while catching

the ball. It takes about 0.10 s for the player to lower her hands to stop the ball. Assume the mass of the ball is 0.60 kg, and that the ball has fallen a vertical distance of 1.2 m before reaching the player's hand. Determine the average force that her hands exert on the ball while catching it.

Answer:F=29 N

Explanation:

Given

time t=0.1 s

mass of ball m=0.6 kg

distance moved before coming to stop d=1.2 m

Net Force exerted

F=\frac{\Delta P}{\Delta t}

F=\frac{m\Delta v}{\Delta t}

F=\frac{m\sqrt{2gd}}{\Delta t}

F=\frac{0.6\cdot \sqrt{2\cdot 9.8\cdot 1.2}}{0.1}

F=\frac{0.6\cdot 4.849}{0.1}

F=\frac{2.90}{0.1}

F=29 N

A 4-kg ball has a momentum of 12 kg∙m/s. what is the ball's speed?
Karolina [17]
M= 4kg
v= ?
momentum = Mv
so
12kgms-¹ = 4kg×v
v= 12÷4 = 3ms-¹

If a shuttle is orbiting a planet at a distance of 40 miles from the center of the planet, and is traveling at a rate of 500 mil
lawyer [7]

Answer:

Time taken, t = 30.15 minutes

Explanation:

It is given that,

Distance from the center of planet, r = 40 miles

Speed of the shuttle, v = 500 miles per hour

Let t is the time taken by it to complete  one full orbit. The displacement of the shuttle is,

d=2\pi r

d=2\pi \times 40

d = 251.32 miles

Now time can be calculated using the expression for the velocity as :

v=\dfrac{d}{t}

t=\dfrac{d}{v}

t=\dfrac{251.32\ miles}{500\ miles\ per\ hour}

t = 0.50264 hours

or

t = 30.15 minutes

So, the shuttle will take 30.15 minutes to complete one full orbit. Hence, this is the required solution.

How high off the ground is a 5.5 kg object that has a gravitational potential energy of 8500 DE=mah
umka21 [38]

Answer:

h = 157.70 meters

Explanation:

Given the following data;

Mass = 5.5 kg

Gravitational potential energy = 8500 Joules

We know that acceleration due to gravity is equal to 9.8 m/s².

To find the height of the object;

Gravitational potential energy (GPE) is an energy possessed by an object or body due to its position above the earth.

Mathematically, gravitational potential energy is given by the formula;

G.P.E = mgh

Where;

G.P.E represents potential energy measured in Joules.

m represents the mass of an object.

g represents acceleration due to gravity measured in meters per seconds square.

h represents the height measured in meters.

Substituting into the formula, we have;

8500 = 5.5*9.8*h

8500 = 53.9h

h = 8500/53.9

h = 157.70 m

Sound cannot travel through___________.
lana [24]

d.) a and b only

This is because sound needs a medium to travel.  It can travel in a solid (the fastest) and air for example.  Sound waves cannot propagate through a vacuum and since space is a vacuum the answer is a and b only.
