Medical drugs can be absorbed in the body through various means of administration (orally, rectally, intradermally, intranasally, etc.). Among the different kinds of administrations, it is the intranasal (through the nose) which causes the highest risk of overdose due to increased potency.

The intranasal administration of drugs provides a fast effect compared to those drugs administered orally, rectally or intradermally. This is the reason why the drugs being administered are potent. This means that even at low concentrations, the drug immediately works through intranasal absorption.

Thus, it is very important in monitoring the dosage of the drugs when giving intranasally as it can result to drug overdose.
