The figure below shows a shaded rectangle inside a large rectangle: A rectangle of length 10 units and width 5 units is shown. I

nside this rectangle is another rectangle of length 9 units and width 3 units placed symmetrically inside the larger rectangle. The smaller rectangle is shaded gray. If you choose a point inside the large rectangle, what is the probability that it is not inside the shaded rectangle?

Answer: \dfrac{7}{10}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : The length of larger rectangle = 10 units

The width of larger rectangle = 5 units

The area of the larger rectangle will be :-

A=5\times10=50\text{ units}^2

The length of smaller rectangle = 9 units

The width of the smaller rectangle = 3 units

The area of the smaller rectangle will be :-

A=3\times9=27\text{ units}^2

Now, the probability that it is inside the shaded rectangle :-

\dfrac{27}{90}=\dfrac{3}{10}

Then , the probability that it is not inside the shaded rectangle will be:-

1-\dfrac{3}{10}=\dfrac{7}{10}

100/50 = x/27
50x=2700
x=54   (small rectangle is 54% of the large rectangle
100% - 54% =46%  (46% is not shaded)
Probability     46%   or 23/50

If 4 quarts of organic grapes cost $20 how many quarts can you purchase for one dollar
Eva8 [605]

Answer:

4/5 of a quart

Step-by-step explanation:

Set this up as a proportion. First of all we know that 4 quarts of organic grapes cost $20, so 4x = 20. Divide and you get that x = 5 meaning 1 quart equals 5 dollars. Now if we scale this down a bit and divide by 5, we end up with 4/5 of a quart = 1$.

Hope this helped (:

A plastic sack contains 20 green and yellow, 14 red and yellow, and 16 orange and yellow gummy treats. How much greater is the p
noname [10]

Answer:

Probability of choosing green and yellow treat  is higher than Probability of choosing an orange and yellow treat  by 0.08

Step-by-step explanation:

Given -

Green and yellow gummy treats = 20

Red and yellow gummy treats = 14

Orange and yellow gummy treats = 16

Total gummy treat = 20+14+16 = 50

Probability of choosing green and yellow treat = 20/50 = 0.4

Probability of choosing an orange and yellow treat = 16/50 = 0.32

Probability of choosing green and yellow treat  is higher than Probability of choosing an orange and yellow treat  by 0.08

Can someone help with this question? I only have 1 answer choice left
Contact [7]

Option A:

Yes, he is correct.

Solution:

To find the distance between two points (2, 4) and (6, 3).

Distance between two points formula:

d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

Here x_1=2, x_2=6, y_1=4, y_2=3

Substitute these in the distance formula.

Step 1:

d=\sqrt{(6-2)^2+(3-4)^2}

Step 2 :

Using BODMAS rule, first simplify the values into the bracket.

d=\sqrt{(4)^2+(-1)^2}

Step 3:

Squaring the numbers.

d=\sqrt{16+1}

d=\sqrt{17}

Therefore, George's work is correct.

Option A is the correct answer.
