A librarian is expanding some sections of the city library. He buys book at a special price from a dealer who charges one price
stiks02 [169]

Answer:

The special price of 1 hardcover book = $13

The special price of 1 paperback book = $6

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, let us assume the special price of 1 hardcover book = $ m

and the the special price of 1 paperback  book = $ n

Now, the  price of 12 hardcover books  = 12 x ( Price of 1 hardcover)  = 12 m

and  the  price of  73 paperback books  = 73 x ( Price of 1 paperback)  = 73 n

Also, The price paid for  12 hardcover and  73 paperback books is $594

⇒ 12 m +  73  n = 594  .......  (1)

Similarly:

The  price of 11 hardcover books  = 11 x ( Price of 1 hardcover)  = 11 m

The  price of  87 paperback books  = 87 x ( Price of 1 paperback)  = 87 n

Also, The price paid for  11 hardcover and  87 paperback books is $665.

⇒ 11 m +  87  n = 665  .......  (2)

Now, solving both equation for the value of m and n , we get:

12 m +  73  n = 594       x 11

11 m +  87  n = 665    x   (-12)

we get:  132 m +  803 n =  6534

             - 132 m  - 1044 n = - 7980

adding both equation, we get:

132 m +  803 n   - 132 m  - 1044 n = - 7980 +   6534

or,  - 241  n =  - 1446

or, n = 1446/241 =  6, or n = 6

Now,  Substituting n = 6 in 12 m +  73  n = 594 ,

we get: 12 m +  73 ( 6)  = 594, m =   13

Hence, The special price of 1 hardcover book = $13

and The special price of 1 paperback book = $6

What is the area of trapezoid ABCD ? Enter your answer as a decimal or whole number in the box. Do not round at any steps. units
lidiya [134]

Answer:

37.5 sq. units.

Step-by-step explanation:

The coordinate of vertices of trapezoid ABCD are given,

From the diagram it is clear the area of ABCD = \frac{1}{2}\times AB \times (AD + BC) {Since, AD ║ BC and AB is the perpendicular distance between the parallel lines }

Now, AB = \sqrt{(- 3 - 1)^{2}+ (2 - 5)^{2} } = 5 units

AD = \sqrt{(- 3 - 0)^{2}+ (2 - (-2))^{2}  } = 5 units

Again, BC = \sqrt{(1-7)^{2}+ (5 - (-3))^{2} } = 10 units

Therefore, the area of trapezoid ABCD = \frac{1}{2} (10 + 5) \times 5 = 37.5 sq. units. (Answer)

We know, that the distance formula between two points (x_{1}, y_{1}) and  (x_{2}, y_{2}) is

\sqrt{(x_{1} - y_{1} )^{2} + (x_{2} - y_{2} )^{2} }.

Rational Numbers-
ioda

Answer:

1.

-9 11/15

2. 11/24

3.

34/45

4. -5.05

5. -0.622

Step-by-step explanation:

1. -2 4/5 - 6 2/15

convert them to a common denominator and an improper fraction:

-2 4/5= 18/5=- 54/15 -6 2/15= 92/ 15

*15 is the other denominator, so you keep the numbers in the second number the same*

subtract: -54/15- 92/15

since you are subtracting a negative number it goes farther away from zero

-146/15 or -9 11/15

2. -5/12 + 7/8

convert them to a common denominator

-5/12=- 20/48 7/8= 35/40

add: -20/48+35/40

11/24

since you are adding a negative number it goes closer to zero or past zero:

3. 3 3/5 x 2/9

convert 3 3/5 to an improper fraction: 18/5

mulitply the two denominators and the two numerators

17/5 x 2/9= 34/45

This is also the simplest form.

4. Convert to a decimal. -5 1/20

keep the -5 beacuse that is a whole number

divide 1/20 to turn it to a decimal to get 0.05

5. Which number is the largest? -0.65, -0.622, -5/8

to find this you would have to convert all numbers to either a decimal or a fraction.

5/8 is 0.625

the one closest to zero is the largest which is -0.622
