Consider a falling mass(m) under gravity(9.8m/s). Initial velocity of the mass is 5 m/s upwards. Derive expressions for the velo

city and the position of the mass(m) in terms of time and initial velocity/position of the mass. a) -How long will the mass take to reach the maximum height position? b)- What would be the maximum height the mass reach relative to its initial position?

Answer:

a) 0.51 s

b) 1.275m

Explanation:

using equation of linear motion

v=u+gt...........................(1)

v^{2} -u^{2}=2gh...........(2)

s=ut+\frac{1}{2} gt^2.......(3)

a) as the ball is thrown upward -ve 'g' will be acting on the body

as the body reaches to the maximum height the final velocity(v) becomes

zero so from equation (1)

0=5-9.8t

t=\frac{5}{9.8}

t=0.51s

b) Now for maximum height calculation using equation (2)

v^{2} -u^{2}=2gh

v=0

h=\frac{-u^2}{2g}

h=\frac{-5^2}{2\times-9.8}

h=1.275m

The yield strength of mild steel is 150 MPa for an average grain diameter of 0.038 mm ; yield strength is 250 MPa for average gr
djyliett [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

Hall-Petch equation provides direct relations between the strength of the material and the grain size:

σ=σ0+k/√d , where d- grain size, σ- strength for the given gran size, σ0 and k are the equation constants.

As in this problem, we don't know the constants of the equation, but we know two properties of the material, we are able to find them from the system of equations:

σ1=σ0+k/√d1

σ2=σ0+k/√d2 , where 1 and 2 represent 150MPa and 250MPa strength of the steel.

Note, that for the given problem, there is no need to convert units to SI, as constants can have any units, which are convenient for us.

From the system of equations calculations, we can find constant: σ0=55.196 MPa, k=18.48 MPa*mm^(0.5)

Now we are able to calculate strength for the grain diameter of 0.004 mm:

σ=55.196+18.48/(√0.004)=347.39 MPa

The strength of the steel with the grais size of 0.004 mm is 347.39 MPa.

In 1828, the diameter of the U.S. dime was changed to approximately 18 mm. What is this diameter when expressed in micrometers
neonofarm [45]

The diameter of an 18 mm dine when expressed in micrometers is; 18000 micrometers

<h3>Conversion of Units</h3>

We are given the diameter of dime at 18 mm.

Now, from conversion of units between mm(millimeter) and micrometer, we know that;

1 millimeter = 1000 micrometer.

Thus, by proportion, 18 millimeter will be;

18 millimeters × 1000 micrometers/1 millimeter

>> 18000 micrometers

In conclusion, the diameter of the 18mm fine in micrometers is; 18000 micrometers

What will the following segment of code output? score = 95; if (score &gt; 95) cout &lt;&lt; "Congratulations!\n"; cout &lt;&lt;
Anarel [89]

Answer:

That's a high score!

This is a test question!

Explanation:

The reason these two lines are printed and not the first one is simple. After the 'IF' condition has been stated, there is no use of parenthesis such as { and } to enclose the next lines. This means that only the first line after the 'IF' condition may be read or skipped depending on whether the condition (score>95) is met. Since the score is not larger than 95, and the 'IF' condition fails, the line 'Congratulations!' is not printed. The next two lines of the code are read as normal because they do not depend on the 'IF' condition.
