However, it is now composed of few species of invertebrates and little to almost no vegetation. This occured due to the first colonizers who rapidly deforested the region.

Research suggests that, apart from this deforestation, which caused the decline of wildlife species that depended on shrubs and palm trees, Polynesian colonisers introduced the Polynesian rat, which consumed almost all of the trees that were present in the island, leading to the absence of their regeneration.

Parts of the nephron:

1. Proximal convoluted tubule (PCT): It is the first part of nephron which is closer to the glomerulus. This part is responsible for the reabsorption of sodium chloride, glucose, water, amino acid, bicarbonate etc.

2. Henle loop: This is present after PCT. As it forms loop like structure therefore it is named so. It consist of ascending loop and descending loop. This part is responsible for the reabsorption of water, sodium and chloride.

3. Distal convoluted tubule: It is the last part of the nephron which empties its filtrate into the collecting duct. This part is responsible for the reabsorption sodium and chloride.
