In general, electronegativity values increase from left to right, excluding the noble gases (Group 18). We know that Group 1 elements easily lose electrons to reach a stable (noble gas) configuration. So it makes sense that they have low electronegativity values. Group 17 elements, on the other hand, easily attract electrons. Their high electronegativity values reflect this behavior.
