How many liters of cane juice is needed to supply 5g sucrose if cane juice contains 12% sucrose

Chemistry

Given parameters:

Mass of sucrose  = 5g

Density of sucrose  = 1.12g/mL

Percentage of sucrose per liter of cane juice  = 12%

Unknown:

Volume of cane juice needed = ?

We need to establish the volume - density relationship. Density is the mass of a substance per unit volume.

Mathematically;

                Density  = \frac{mass}{volume}

Now solve for the volume of sucrose;

                  1.12g/mL = \frac{5}{Volume}

       Volume  = \frac{5}{1.12}    =  4.46mL   = 4.46 x 10⁻³L since 1000mL  = 1L

Since 12% of 1 liter of cane juice is sucrose;

                    12% of  x  liter of cane juice  = 4.46 x 10⁻³L

                   Volume of cane juice  = 4.46 x 10⁻³ x \frac{100}{12}   = 0.037L

Volume of cane juice is  0.037L

How many grams of carbon dioxide are produced when 16.0
Kobotan [32]

Mass of CO₂ = 33 g

<h3>Further explanation  </h3>

Complete combustion of Hydrocarbons with Oxygen will be obtained by CO₂ and H₂O compounds.

If O₂ is insufficient there will be incomplete combustion produced by CO and H and O

Reaction

CH₄ + 2O₂⇒CO₂ + 2H₂O

mol CH₄ :

\tt =\dfrac{16}{16}=1

mol O₂ :

\tt =\dfrac{48}{32}=1.5

A method that can be used to find limiting reactants is to divide the number of moles of known substances by their respective coefficients

\tt CH_4:O_2=\dfrac{1}{1}:\dfrac{1.5}{2}=1:0.75

Because O₂ ratio smaller then O₂ becomes the limiting  reactants

So mol CO₂ from limiting reactants

mol CO₂ :

\tt \dfrac{1}{2}\times 1.5=0.75

mass CO₂ :

\tt mass=mol\times MW=0.75\times 44=33~g

Commercially available aqueous nitric acid has a density of 1.42 g/mL and a concentration of 16 M. Calculate the mass percent of
luda_lava [24]

Answer:

The mass % of HNO3 in the solution is 71.0 %

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

Density of HNO3 = 1.42 g/mL

Concentration = 16 M = 16 mol /L

Molar mass HNO3 = 63.01 g/mol

Assume the volume = 1L or 1000 mL

Step 2: Calculate mass of the solution

Mass = density * volume

Mass = 1.42 g/mL * 1000 mL

Mass = 1420 grams

Step 3: Calculate moles HNO3

Moles = molarity * volume

Moles = 16 M * 1L

Moles = 16 moles

Step 4: Calculate mass HNO3

Mass HNO3 = moles * molar mass

Mass HNO3 = 16.0 moles * 63.01 g/mol

Mass HNO3 = 1008.16 grams

Step 5: Calculate the mass percent

mass % = (1008.16 grams / 1420 grams) *100%

mass % = 71.0 %

The mass % of HNO3 in the solution is 71.0 %
