The rock will be at 90.4 m from the top of the cliff.

<u>Explanation</u>:

The rock is thrown with the “initial velocity” 3 m/s. We need to find how much distance does the rock traveled in 4 seconds (t).

From the “kinematic equations” take

s=u t+\frac{1}{2} a t^{2}

Where, “s” is distance traveled, “u” initial velocity of the object, “t” time the object traveled and “a” acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 \mathrm{m} / \mathrm{s}^{2}.

Substitute the given values in the above formula,

s=3 \times 4+\frac{1}{2} \times 9.8 \times 4^{2}

s=12+\frac{1}{2} \times 9.8 \times 16

s=12+\frac{1}{2} \times 156.8

s=12+78.4

s=90.4

The rock is at height of 90.4 m from the top of the cliff.

Which statement correctly defines displacement
Andreyy89

Displacement is B) the shortest distance between the starting point and the ending point of a motion

Explanation:

Displacement is a vector quantity; it is a vector connecting the initial position to the final position of motion of an object.

Since it is a vector, it has both a magnitude and a direction:

  • The magnitude of the displacement is the length of the vector, therefore it corresponds to the shortest distance in a  straight line between the starting point and the ending point of the motion
  • The direction goes from the starting point to the ending point

Therefore, the correct answer is

B) the shortest distance between the starting point and the ending point of a motion

Note that displacement is very different  from distance. Consider for example an object moving in a circle, returning to its initial position: in this case, the distance covered by the object is not zero (it is the length of the circle), however the  displacement is zero, because the initial position corresponds to the ending position.

Magnesium (Mg) has 12 protons and an atomic mass of 24. How many neutrons does magnesium have?
JulijaS [17]
An atom is made up of three different particles, which are proton, neutron and electron. The proton and the neutron are located in the nucleus of the atom and they make up mass of the atom. The electron orbit around the nucleus. The proton is positively charged while the electron is negatively charged, thus, for the atom to remain neutral, the number of proton and electron in an atom must be equal. The neutron has no charge.
The atomic mass of an element = number of proton + number of neutron
Atomic mass of magnesium= 24
Number of proton = 12
Therefore, number of neutron = 24 - 12 = 12.
Thus, the number of neutron = 12.
