During the colonisation of the Americas by Spain between the 16th and 19th century, the Spanish power established Catholic missions often called as Spanish Missions in an attempt to to teach and imbibe American Indians to accept European values.
These missions aimed at converting the natives into Catholic faith and making them embrace Catholic values and spiritual practices. The missions influenced the natives in religious and spiritual affairs which changed the societal structure completely.
